Satan’s church had its beginning at Babylon with the construction of the Tower of Babel on the plain of Shinar by the River Euphrates many generations after the deluge. At the time of the construction of Babylon at the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-4), mankind had multiplied and spoken one language. Cush who was the son of Ham and grandson of Noah (Genesis 10:1, 6), helped to plan with his son Nimrod, a blueprint by which to rule the world of humanity through a wicked counterfeit religion. Nimrod was the originator of sun worship and founder of Babylon. A Bible translation called the Targum says, “Nimrod became a mighty man of sin, a murderer of innocent men, and a rebel before the Lord.

The beginning of Nimrod’s evil plan had its origin at Babel which was later known as Babylon. This city of Babylon with a tower “whose top may reach unto heaven” was built by Nimrod (Genesis 10:8-1011:4). Tower of BabelThey called the tower “Babel, the gate to heaven,” but God called it what it was which was, “Babel, confusion,” for there God confused the language of the people which forced them to scatter. This heaven defying group of people wanted one government to rule the world and one religion to sway the hearts of mankind. This was Satan’s attempt to defy God and His authority and the ring leader of his scheme was Nimrod. But God came down and stopped this world wide rebellion at Babel, in defiance of His command for mankind to replenish the earth (Genesis 9:1) by confusing their language into many languages so they could not understand one another’s speech. Mankind discontinued the building of Babel and were scattered to different parts of the world (Genesis 11:8-9).

Nimrod had a plan to weld together and strengthen this evil religious system and so he married his own mother who was Semiramis. She was the first deified queen of Babylon and Nimrod was the first deified king. Semiramis was as wicked as her son Nimrod, and as much sold out to Satan and devil worship as did he. Incest was used here as a basis to unite this newly false religious system. Nimrod and his mother/wife would be greatly used by Satan in the following centuries to send countless millions and even billions of souls to hell.

Satan’s plan was to develop a counterfeit, opposition system of religion to attract worship away from the true God of Heaven. This false system had its sacrificial plan just as God had a plan of sacrifice. But Satan’s pagan worship required the offering up of human beings, which was often the sons and daughters of the worshipers. A counterfeit holy day was instituted in honor of the sun god, (Sun-day) and this was designed by Satan to rob God of his peculiar authority as the Creator of the universe as designated by His Holy day the Sabbath.

Have you noticed how occult symbols are typically reversed? Example: The occult symbol for a cross is an inverted cross. Most have never noticed that God uses the 6:1 principle. That is, you have 6 of something normal and then on the 7th something special happens. Example: God created the world in 6 days and the 7th is a special day of rest and worship. Crops were grown for 6 years and the 7th year the land was rested. Slaves were kept for 6 years and were to be set free on the 7th year. There are 6 weeks from Passover to the 7th week being Pentecost. There are 6 months from Passover to the 7th month being the Day of Atonement. Bible chronologists say we are currently approaching the end of 6000 years since creation and if Christ returns at the end of 6000 years, we will then have the 7000th year being the 1000 year millennial reign. (See Revelation 20:1-15) So 6000 years + 1000 years (millennium) = 7000 years. None of this is by chance and is God’s plan. Observe the days of the week below.

The first six days are normal but the 7th day is the “Sabbath of the Lord thy God.” Remember that the occult uses the reverse symbol or is the opposite (in opposition) to God. So if Sunday was Satan’s plan for a day of worship, and we have seen historically that it is, then his week would be the reverse of God’s week. Instead of being the 6:1 principle it would be 1:6. As seen from the table below, this is the case and so it is not just two days side by side. It is the occult equivalent and this is not by chance but Satan’s choice.

We are fast approaching 6000 years (last generation now) and if Jesus comes at the end of 6000 years we would then have a 1000 year Sabbath. A thousands years a day just as God said. 2 Peter 3:8 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” Six days work and the Seventh day rest. This Earth’s history may end up being a mirror image of the creation week but with a thousand years to a day. That would put a whole new perspective on the meaning of the Sabbath now that is for sure. 6000 years of working and a 1000 years of rest. God does love doing things in numbers!

Nimrod’s and Semiramis’ followers plunged so deeply into sin and the occult that they even sacrificed babies to Satan in their worship of him. This became a common practice until Shem who was one of Noah’s three sons and the great uncle of Nimrod, in his anger and wrath killed Nimrod and cut him up into small pieces as an example to others not to commit such abominable sins and not to follow such evil religious practices. (Shem was a godly man and it was through his seed the Messiah would come.)

Alexander Hislop in his book The Two Babylons said, , “the Tower of Babel was actually the worship of Satan in the form of fire, the sun and the serpent. However, Satan worship could not be done openly because of the many who still believed in the true God of Noah. So a mystery religion began at Babel where Satan could be worshipped in secret.” – Alexander Hislop, The Two Babylons, 2nd American ed.(Neptune, New Jersey: Loizeaux Brothers, 1959)

Because of Nimrod’s death, the followers of Nimrod and Semiramis were stunned and experienced much grief. Their religious hero was dead. They were afraid to continue in their worship of Satan for fear that what happened to Nimrod would also happen to them, so a mystery religion developed at Babel where Satan could be worshipped in secret. This is exactly what is happening in these last days. Satan is using mysteries and deceptions to deceive people into thinking that they are worshipping God when they are actually worshipping Satan.

For a short time the practices of this counterfeit religion ceased but Semiramis, the wife of Nimrod, had a brilliant idea of how she could successfully revive her and Nimrod’s pagan religion and give it a new form. It was not long after the death of her husband that Semiramis became pregnant. She said that when Nimrod died that he went up to the sun, and the sun then became a symbol of Nimrod. She told the people that a ray of the sun had come to her and impregnated her with a child and that it was actually Nimrod coming back in a reincarnation of the sun god. The child was called Tammuz and these three were worshipped as the personification of the sun god, and this is where we find the three in one trinity doctrine originated and is where the first three came into existence. This mystery religion was nothing more than Satan worship. Read the pagan origins of the trinity doctrine for more.

The trinity got its start in Ancient Babylon with Nimrod – Tammuz – and Semiramis. Semiramis demanded worship for both her husband and her son as well as herself. She claimed that her son, was both the father and the son. Yes, he was “god the father” and “god the son” – The first divine incomprehensible trinity.” – The Two Babylons; Alexander Hislop, p.51

So Semiramis proclaimed that her husband Nimrod was a god, and she as the wife of Nimrod was a goddess. She then announced herself to be “The Queen of Heaven” and that she should be worshiped as such. She claimed that her spirit was the moon and when she died she would dwell in the moon, even as Nimrod was already in the sun. What a devilish brainstorm inspired by Satan!

Satan was laying the foundation for every system of falsehood and error the world has ever known. They took the truth of God and turned it into a lie and “worshipped and served the creature (on a wider application also includes Satan) more than the Creator.” Romans 1:25. This system of paganism, while professing to be the true religion, is actually devil worship. It professes and claims to be the truth of God but in reality it is Satan’s masterpiece, the “mystery of iniquity.

As Satan’s church gained momentum, Semiramis pushed this satanic religious order underground. The followers of this counterfeit religion had to take secret oaths. The secret societies (some unscriptural lodges of today) thus had their beginning. The confessionals and priesthood were set up. The followers of this pagan religion confessed their sins to their priests. (what church continued this unbiblical pagan tradition?) See also 1 Timothy 2:5Luke 5:20-21. By so doing, Semiramis could control her followers and exercise lordship over them. She boldly and brazenly proclaimed that she and her priests were the only ones who understood the mysteries of God and that they were the only possible way to God. Because of dedication to and fear of this false religious system, the followers of this religion fearfully complied.

Semiramis and her priests of Satan were deep into the occult, magic and illusion. They were masters of lies and deception. Everywhere there were statues or idols of this mother/child cult. Semiramis was soon hailed as “The Queen of Heaven” (Ashtarte). Her symbol became the moon and her husband Nimrod, was called “Baal” (the “sun god”) and his symbol became the sun. The city of Babylon was the seat of Satan worship until its fall to the Medes and the Persians in 539 BC. At this time the Babylonian pagan priests left Babylon and went to Alexandria and Pergamos. See who is the beast that has the number 666 or the origin of 666 for more.

It should be noted that the majority of the Babylonian pagan priests went to Pergamos more so than Alexandria, so for many centuries after the fall of Babylon, Pergamos became the new seat of Satan (Revelation 2:12-13), but around 129 BC, opportunity arose for them to leave Pergamos and go to Rome and thus Rome became the final seat of Satan where he set up his church, and hence sun worship, which was practised on Sunday, was most prevalent in Alexandria and Rome by the time of Christ.

Church historian Socrates Scholasticus (5th century) wrote: “For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries [of the Lord’s Supper] on the Sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this.” – Socrates Scholasticus, Ecclesiastical History, Book 5, ch. 22.

So Baal worship was in full swing. It caught on fast and spread to many parts of the world. In Egypt, Semiramis became known as “Isis”, “The Queen of Heaven.” Nimrod became known as “Osiris”, the husband/son, and frequently called “Horus” (the sun god). In Phoenicia, Semiramis and Nimrod were worshipped as or known as Ashterath and Tammuz; in Greece, Aphrodite and Eros; in Rome, Venus and Cupid, and in China, Mother Shing Moo and her child.

When the cold season began every year, they believed their sun god was leaving them. It was on December 25th that they noticed the gradual return of the sun god. So they called this day the birth of the sun. Tammuz was hailed as the son of the sun. He was idolized and even worshipped and the first letter of his name became the symbol of sun worship. Human sacrifices to the sun god were offered on this initial letter made of wood, known as the cross “T” and this “T” for Tammuz is also the true origin of Catholics crossing themselves. His birthday of December 25 was honored more and more. Satan worked many years before the conception and birth of the true Messiah to counterfeit through sun worship His miraculous conception and birth. Satan succeeded many times in leading God’s people into sin and pagan sun worship.

The true date of the birth of Christ is most likely between July and September but since the exact date of Christ’s birthday was unknown, it was suggested, “Why not call it the same date as the birth of Tammuz, which was December 25?” This was the time when the sun had reached its lowest point on the horizon and started back up into the heavens and so the sun god had come to life, so to speak. So gradually December 25 came to be known as the birthday of Christ. The Papal Church finally instituted a special mass on that day, “Christ’s Mass,” and so December 25 became “Christmas.” The yule log burning in the fire followed by the green tree lit with candles all came from the pagan worship representing Nimrod being dead, while his spirit still lived on in the sun and was alive again in Tammuz his son.

Jesus was crucified and resurrected in the spring of the year near the time of the moon festival. The devil was at work once again to bring the idea of having a celebration at the same time as the heathen but calling it “in honor of the resurrection.” And in regards to the worship of the moon goddess Semiramis, the so called queen of heaven. The cakes to the QUEEN OF HEAVEN were round and on them was cut a cross in honor of the sun god, and they were offered to the queen of heaven and today we call them “hot cross buns.” (Read Jeremiah 7:16-18). The forty days of “weeping for Tammuz” became Lent and at the close of Lent came Easter Sunday. The prophet Ezekiel was shown even greater abominations. (Read Ezekiel 8:12-18). This goddess Ishtar (Easter) came to be known as the goddess of springtime as in “new life,” or as history records it, the “goddess of reproduction.” The pagans would go to some mountain side early Sunday morning and worship this goddess as the sun was rising in the east. They gave themselves to immorality and indecency of every description. The eggs and rabbits were used as symbols of fertility and germination and hence “new life.” It all came into the Church gradually and was all blessed by the Catholic Church and given to the world. And some people wonder why God calls the Catholic Church Babylon!

The use of temples, and these dedicated to particular saints, and ornamented on occasions with branches of trees; incense, lamps, and candles; votive offerings on recovery from illness; holy water; asylums; holydays and seasons, use of calendars, processions, blessings on the fields; sacerdotal vestments, the tonsure, the ring in marriage, turning to the East, images at a later date, perhaps the ecclesiastical chant, and the Kyrie Eleison are all of pagan origin, and sanctified by their adoption into the Church.” — An Essay on The Development of the Christian Doctrine John Henry “Cardinal Newman” p.373.

It has often been charged… that Catholicism is overlaid with many pagan incrustations. Catholicism is ready to accept that accusation and even to make it her boast… the great god Pan is not really dead, he is baptized” — The Story of Catholicism p 37.

As time elapsed, stories spread worldwide about Semiramis and Nimrod as Baal worship was everywhere. (The above information on the beginning of Satan’s church and its unscriptural practices is found in The Two Babylons, by Rev. Alexander Hislop) In his book he has composed a list of names adopted in other parts of the world that can be traced back to Semiramis and Nimrod in one way or another. Satan pulled it off well as he had the whole world trapped into some form of Baal worship. The entire world had lapsed into polytheism (worship of many gods or idols). Mankind no longer desired to serve the true and living God and to accept His scriptural plan of salvation. (Romans 1:18-32).

Around 2000 BC in Abraham’s day, Baal worship and its pagan rites had so permeated the human race that God called Abraham out from it to be the progenitor of a nation of people (the Israelites or Jews) who would be instructed by God through Moses and the prophets to be a shining light and an example of godliness to the heathen nations and reveal to them God’s scriptural plan of salvation (Genesis 11:26-12: 1-5; Exodus 19:5-6; Hebrews 11:8).

The Jews were greatly blessed by God as His chosen people, who were to serve as His representatives of godliness to those heathen nations who had become entrapped by paganism, to evangelize those godless nations and to show them God’s love. The Jews were repeatedly told that if they were to sin by serving other gods, to depart from the Lord and fail God in their mission as His representatives to those nations trapped in Baal worship, the Jews would suffer terribly at the hand of God and be dispersed into all the nations of the earth. (See Deuteronomy 4:1-40; 6:14-18; 7:6-26; 8:6-20; 10:12-20; 11:1-28; 12:28-32; 29:16-29; 30:11-20).

Before his death, Moses foretold that after his death the Jews would disobey and turn to other “gods” to worship and serve them (Deuteronomy 31:27, 29; 32:16-29). After Moses’ death, Joshua took command and led the children of Israel across the River Jordan into Palestine. The Jews were ordered to exterminate the Canaanites of the land because they were so wicked and so deeply involved in the evil practices of Baal worship, and to take the land as their dwelling to be used for the glory of God in leading the ungodly nations to God and His plan of redemption. The Jews took the land and exterminated some of the inhabitants of the land but not all. The Jews here had already begun to disobey God. They soon became weary in their conquests of Palestine and stopped fighting. Soon afterwards the Israelites departed from their worship of the Lord and started to worship and serve other gods as Moses had predicted. The Jews soon became so involved in Baal worship and its pagan practices that some of them even sacrificed their children to Satan.

Because of their disobedience to God’s command to be faithful in their worship of and service to the true and living God, the Jews would have to suffer. On many occasions God allowed the children of Israel to be captured by their enemies and to be persecuted. When the Jews cried out to God in sorrow for their sins, the Lord delivered them. The Lord raised up Judges to secure their deliverances. After each time the Lord brought about the deliverance of the captured, suffering children of Israel, the Jews would plunge back into sin and Baal worship. As time passed the Jews became even more involved in pagan worship in spite of God’s warnings and chastisements. God raised up prophets to warn the Israelites to repent or suffer more. Prophet after prophet was raised up for that purpose and many of them were executed by the Jews. In 722 BC the ten Northern tribes were captured by the Assyrians and scattered never to return, and in 586 BC the Babylonians captured Judah and Jerusalem. This was the third time Babylon came up against them but this time brought about their total destruction as everything was torn down. After the Babylonian captivity in 539 BC at which time Babylon had fallen to the Persians, the Persians granted the Jews in Babylon permission to return to Jerusalem.

Many Jews did return to Palestine during the years 539 BC, 457 BC and 445 BC. Others doubtless returned between those years and after 445 BC. Read also Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy. In 70 AD the Romans under General Titus captured Jerusalem and persecuted the Jews. The Jews final dispersion took place at this time. After 70 AD, the Jews had been dispersed into all the nations of the world to suffer. Nearly all nations who had received Jews eventually turned on them and persecuted them. The Jews have been the most hated and persecuted people in history and have suffered more than any other people. They disobeyed God and they had to suffer as God said they would.

When the Roman Empire was in power during the earthly life of Jesus and during the early Church period, the Roman Caesars were to be worshipped as gods. The early Christians were persecuted by the Romans because they would not bow down to the pagan Caesars. Satan directed this persecution of the early believers in an effort to stamp out Christianity. But instead of wiping out Christianity, persecution resulted in its growth! As more Christians were put to death, more and more Christians rose up to replace them. Satan saw that his directed persecution of the early believers would not obliterate Christianity so he moved to attack the Church from within instead of from without.

Satan devised a plan by which he would lay the foundation for and establish his own counterfeit church. Under Satan’s direction paganism would get a new face. Satan would introduce to the world his own version of a “Christian Church.” As was indicated earlier, the Caesars were worshipped as gods. As the Roman Empire was near disintegration, the pagan Caesars did not want to lose their power in controlling the world, so they decided on a plan by which to keep their power and influence in the world. The Roman Caesars simply exchanged their Roman togas for religious costumes. Thus they could control the world’s governments and their economies through religion.

After Constantine defeated Maxentius in 312 AD in a battle for the throne of Rome, Satan continued in his clever plan to build his own version of a “Christian Church.” After his ascension to the Roman Throne, Constantine issued his Edict of Toleration in 313 AD to stop the persecution of the true believers in Christ. Under Constantine the Christian Church for a time found relief from persecution. Satan had now temporarily stopped his persecution of the Christian Church from without, but he would now proceed to attack the Church from within.

Under Satan’s direction, Constantine set up the “Council of Nicaea” and presided as “Summus Pontifex”, the official title of a Pope. Constantine’s job was to mix paganism with a perverted form of Christianity to make his new religious organization look respectable. This mixture of paganism with some of the teaching of Christ was Satan’s version of a “Christian Church.” This powerful religious institution would be later used by Satan to send millions of souls to hell and to cause the deaths of many Bible believing Christians.images (18)

Many changes took place in this Babylonian pagan church. Under Constantine, the pagans were permitted to bring their statues and idols of Semiramis, “The Queen of Heaven”, and Nimrod, “Baal”, “The Sun God’, into the Church. The names were changed to the Virgin Mary, “Queen of Heaven” and little Jesus, “The Sun God.” For example: Is this Catholic image Mary and baby Jesus or is it Semiramis, “The Queen of Heaven” and son Nimrod/Tammuz? Note the pagan trident symbol from the head of what is supposedly baby Jesus and that the hand is displayed with two fingers and a thumb prominent, being another way of symbolizing the trident and is a Satanic hand sign symbolic of occult powers. This is also used by high Church officials and priests in blessings invoking the sign of the cross by motioning their right hand with two fingers and thumb casually extended. It is also found in freemasonry of which origins can be found in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church erroneously say that Peter was the first so called Pope of this Papal system but in fact it was really Constantine. So under Constantine as its first Pope, the Roman Catholic Institution as we know it today had its beginning. See also paganism in the Catholic Church and Catholic Church error and was Peter the first Pope.

The Roman Catholic Church grew in power as the people in Rome were again under the priests and each succeeding Pope. Constantine had fifty Bibles made of perverted manuscripts composed by pagan worshippers of Baal from Alexandria. Alexandria was not only the seat of Baal worship but was also the headquarters of the most liberal philosophers. Those wicked philosophers produced their own perverted version of a Bible, and fifty such copies were made for Constantine to be given to the new “Church” over which he presided. The Latin Vulgate, authored by Jerome and based on the above fifty Bibles, later became the Roman Catholic Bible, which was kept from the people so that unscriptural traditions would have greater emphasis in the minds of the followers of the Pope.

The above information can be found in the books, The Two Babylons by Alexander Hislop and the Angel of Light by Jack Chick. Alexander Hislop in his book also traces Roman Catholic sacraments, ceremonies, doctrines, confessionals, priesthood, etc. back to ancient Babylonian Baal worship. Roman Catholicism is based on ancient Babylonian Baal worship and on the man made traditions of the Church fathers. Catholicism is not based on the teachings of God’s Word or on the Scriptural plan of salvation. So we find Satan had a long term plan for his church and sun worship, which was practiced on Sunday, and was initially most prevalent in Alexandria and Rome. From this pagan sun worship came both the trinity doctrine and Sunday worship. Too many people are too quick to write off the fourth Commandment as unimportant when it obviously is. Please read who is the Antichrist for the evidence and watch The god’s of Babylon for the pagan origins of the trinity doctrine.

Ark of the covenant Israel Ethiopia Solomon Sheba

The central object of the tabernacle was the Arc of the Covenant. This was an oblong box made of acacia wood and overlaid with Gold. In this box together with a pot of manna and the rod of Aaron reposed the Law of God which demanded the death of the Israelites. They had broken that law even before Moses had brought it down from the mountain, and that broken Law demanded death. God had made a provision whereby the guilty ones could be spared from death and the penalty of the law. this provision was a mercy seat which rested on top of the arc which contained the Law of God. This mercy seat was a cover made of beaten gold with two Cherubim overshadowing it. This mercy seat was of no avail until the High priest had taken blood from the altar and sprinkled it on the mercy seat over the arc and then when Jehovah came down upon the arc in the Shekinah cloud, He did not see the law but instead the blood and the law was satisfied. And God was reconciled and instead of the curse of the Law He now brought the blessing of the blood for He had said “When I see the blood I will pass over you.” There can only be one escape from the curse of the law and the penalty of sin and that is the blood. Take away the blood and death falls. Remove the blood from the Bible and it dies as surely as when you remove the blood from a human body. There can only be one place of shelter and that is under the blood.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” —1st Peter 1:18,19

We don’t hear enough these days about the precious blood of Jesus, “…and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1st John 1:7). What a wonderful Savior! Jesus paid a debt of sin that He did not owe, because we owed a debt of sin that we could not pay. Our sins had to be paid for with Jesus’ blood.

In the Old Testament, the people’s sins were only ATONED (i.e., covered) for. Leviticus 17:11 states, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” This Scripture speaks of the blood of animals, which were sacrificed to temporarily cover the sins of the people in the Old Testament, until the Messiah would come and offer the perfect Sacrifice of Himself to God the Father.

We read in Hebrews 9:12 concerning Jesus, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Jesus’ blood didn’t atone for our sins; but rather, took them away forever!
Jesus’ Blood Sacrifice Is All Sufficient

Hebrews 9:24-26 state, “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now ONCE in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Jesus’ blood applied to the Mercy Seat in Heaven is all-sufficient.

Jesus only needed to offer Himself as a sacrifice once. This is what is wrong with the Catholic crucifix… they keep Jesus on the cross. In the Catholic mass, participants actually believe they are digesting the literal body and blood of Jesus Christ each time. This is why Mel Gibson’s film, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, portrays Jesus being brutally whipped, punched and beaten every step of the way (which no human being could survive). Gibson’s movie caters to the Catholic mass, in which they believe Jesus is continually sacrificed again and again. Yet the Bible proclaims that Jesus died ONCE. They call this the doctrine of transubstantiation, which is unscriptural. Jesus is NO longer on the cross.

Also, every crucifix I’ve ever seen makes Jesus’ look decrepit and sickly. Our Lord was a carpenter, and they didn’t have power tools back then. Jesus was a strong man, healthy, and not some sissified looking wimp. Catholics have some strange ideas of Christ.

Jesus died on the cross, was buried to confirm His death, and then rose miraculously three days later. Christ is alive! Thank the Lord for His mercy, for paying for our many sins with His precious blood.

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” —Colossians 1:14
The Blood Does NOT Merely Represent Jesus’ Death!

There is a damnable heresy circulating in many of our churches today, popularized by religious liberal, John MacArthur. Moody Publishers sadly prints all of MacArthur’s liberal books these days. Moody Ministries has really gone downhill spiritually. Dr. MacArthur teaches that Jesus’ liquid blood has no value or significance in and of itself. He claims that Jesus’ blood is important only in the sense that it represents the DEATH of Christ. Nothing could be further from the truth!

In MacArthur’s Bible commentary, he teaches that Hebrews 9:12 doesn’t mean what it says. Hebrews 9:12, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but BY HIS OWN BLOODhe entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” John MacArthur teaches that the phrase “BY HIS OWN BLOOD” only refers to Jesus’ death, and not Christ’s literal blood. It is a sinful thing to diminish the literal teachings of the Bible as only being figurative unless the Bible indicates otherwise. For example: In Revelation 1:20 we are told that the mystery of the seven stars are the seven angels, and the seven candlesticks are the seven churches. No where in the Bible are we ever told that the death of Jesus is represented by the blood. Thus, if the Bible teaches in Hebrews 9:12 that Jesus entered into the heavenly holy place BY HIS OWN BLOOD, then we must accept this truth literally. MacArthur is perverting the Scriptures.

When God told Moses to warn the Israelites concerning the coming 10th plague, i.e., the death of the firstborn, the people were instructed to kill a lamb, and then APPLYthe lamb’s blood to the side and upper doorposts of the home. John MacArthur likely learned his heresies from Robert B. Thieme Jr. and John MacArthur Exodus 12:23, “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.” Did you read that … WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD!!!

…WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD!!!

R.B. Thieme Jr. and John MacArthur Jr. are fools to diminish the importance of the literal, physical, blood of Jesus Christ. MacArthur has tried to defend himself by saying that he loves the blood of Jesus and upholds it’s importance; but he plainly maintains that the blood is only important and precious in that it REPRESENTS THE DEATH of Christ. MacArthur clearly denies the efficacy (power) of Christ’s literal, physical, blood.

Carefully notice that the Lord wasn’t looking for the dead lamb. Rather, the blood had to be APPLIED. Also, please read, The Importance of the Blood. John MacArthur is an unsaved liberal. Hebrews 10:29, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”

The blood is very important. The Bible is very plain that Jesus entered into the heavenly holy place after He arose from the dead. Jesus ascended into Heaven with His blood. The blood had to be applied. Hebrews 9:12, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Shame on these fake Bible scholars who trample upon the blood. MacArthur is wrong, wrong, wrong to say that Jesus’ blood is precious to him when in reality he only sees Christ’s blood as symbolic of His death. What a sham! I’m sad and surprised that Moody Ministries actually promotes this wicked man.MacArthur is wrong about the blood and he’s wrong about the way of salvation.

R.B. Thieme, Jr. and John MacArthur… Heretics!

It’s All About the Blood of Jesus!

From the blood of Abel’s slain lamb in Genesis, to the robes of the saints washed in the blood of the Lamb in Revelation, the Word of God centers around the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:22, “…without shedding of blood is no remission.” Jesus’ death was just as important as His blood sacrifice, and equally important the burial and resurrection; BUT everything concerning the events of Jesus’ life were leading up to the blood being applied to the Mercy Seat in Heaven.

Hebrews 9:24-26 state, “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us…” (that is, God the Father). Jesus took His shed blood to Heaven to present unto the Father, by applying it to the Mercy Seat. This is why Jesus said to Mary in John 20:17, ”Jesus saith unto her, TOUCH ME NOT; for I am not yet ascended to my Father” The blood couldn’t be tainted.
The NIV Perverts the Holy Blood of Jesus Christ!

I watched a film on the GOSPEL OF JOHN, which is based upon the New International Version [NIV]. I almost fell out of my chair when Mary Magdalene grabbed Jesus’ hand after He rose from the dead and appeared to her outside of His tomb. The NIV horribly corrupts the Scriptures, which reads:

“Jesus said, ‘Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.’”

Do not hold on to me? That’s not what the inspired King James Bible says! The King James Bible reads:

“Jesus saith unto her, TOUCH ME NOT; for I am not yet ascended to my Father…

The NIV is of the Devil. Jesus needed to apply His blood in Heaven, just as the Old Testament highpriest did every year in the holy of holies in the tabernacle. If Mary had touched Jesus, she would have corrupted the blood. The NIV is ridiculous, as if Jesus could not ascend into Heaven because Mary was holding on to him. That’s not what John 20:17 means at all. Jesus had risen from the dead and needed to appear before the Father in Heaven as Hebrews 9:24 teaches; and Jesus needed to apply His blood in the Holy Place as Hebrews 9:12 teaches.

So don’t let any modernist, nor false prophet, minimize the importance of Jesus’ blood. There could be NO forgiveness of sins if it weren’t for Christ’s blood sacrifice. Curse the NIV! If you use the NIV, you will be spiritually retarded.
Seventh-Day-Adventists Pervert the Holy Blood of Jesus Christ!

Seventh Day Adventists pervert the blood of Christ by claiming that Jesus’ sacrifice wasn’t enough, and that Christ is still in the process of completing His work of redemption (SDA’s call this heresy, Investigative Judgment).

They call this heresy “investigative judgment,” i.e., they claim that Jesus investigates our individual lives to decide whether we are “worthy” to enter Heaven or not. I ask you… is any sinful human being “worthy” of heaven? Does not Romans 3:23 declare that we ALL HAVE SINNED? Yes, it most certain does! There is NO ONE worthy to enter Heaven, which is exactly WHY we needed Jesus to shed His blood for our sins, because we could not save ourselves.

We all deserve Hellfire, nothing better. But thanks be to God for sending His only begotten Son into the world to pay for our sins. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The reason WHY we are to trust Christ alone for salvation is because of the blood that He shed for our sins. ONLY Jesus has the nail-scared hands and feet! No one else! Salvation is found only in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:10-12; John 14:6) because God’s blood was shed upon the cross… “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood” (Acts 20:28). The blood that flowed from Jesus’ veins was not the sinful, tainted, blood of Adam; NO, rather, it was the blood of God the Father.

Seventh Day Adventism is a heathen, Satanic, and doctrinally rotten cult. They teach doctrines of devils.
The LITERAL Blood of Jesus Had to be Applied to the Mercy Seat in Heaven

The great Bible teacher, M.R. DeHaan, M.D. (pictured below), has it 100% correct when he states concerning the blood of Jesus…

The blood was to be sprinkled, remember, on the mercy seat right after the death of the substitutionary animal of sacrifice, Now Christ is, of course, our substitute.  He was slain for us upon the Cross, and entered into death for us, and when He arose, He immediately went to heaven, entered into the holy of holies in heaven, sprinkled His precious blood upon the mercy seat before the throne of God, and forever settled the sin questions, and delivered us from the curse of the law. This is clearly taught in the New testament. Hebrews 9:12 is very definite on this:

“But by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”

The Bible also makes plain when He accomplished this. On the morning of the resurrection He meets Mary at the tomb. As soon as Mary recognized Him, she prostrated herself upon Him, and would have kissed His feet, but with shocking suddenness, Jesus emphatically says to her: “Touch me not”; and then He proceeds immediately to give the reason why Mary is not permitted to touch Him at all.

“For I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17)

Literally the Lord Jesus Christ said, “Touch me not; for I now am about to ascend unto my Father.”  We can understand this action when we remember the the high priest after he had offered the sacrifice, was to enter the holy of holies, before he did anything else, with the precious blood. No one was allowed to approach him. Everyone was shut out until this was completely done. And here in the record of the meeting with Mary we have the fulfillment of this type. Here Mary meets her great High Priest, just arisen from the tomb, but before He had entered the holy of holies with the reconciling blood. And so He says to her, “TOUCH ME NOT.”

What a wonderful truth! The Bible is so clear when you accept it as it’s written. The best way to interpret the Bible is to not interpret it. By diligently cross-referring Scripture with Scripture, we are able to form a complete and accurate picture of divine Truth. Thank God for the precious redeeming literal blood of Christ Jesus!

“But BY HIS OWN BLOOD he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” —Hebrews 9:12

The Death of the Passover Lamb Was NOT Enough

When the Lord was going to pass over Egypt and destroy the firstborn, he said to Moses and Aaron in Exodus 12:13…

“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”

The death of the lamb wasn’t enough, the blood had to be applied Mr. MacArthur. God wasn’t looking for a dead lamb in the backyard; No, rather, God was looking for the APPLIED BLOOD on the doorposts and lintel (doorplate) above the door. The blood had to be applied. John MacArthur’s entire ministry is flawed, and he is a false prophet, simply because he is WRONG on the most important Christian doctrine of all—Jesus precious literal liquid blood! No genuinely saved person would ever deny the redemptive power of Jesus’ physical blood!

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but BY HIS OWN BLOOD he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” —Hebrews 9:12

If the Old Testament high priest killed the lamb and went home, the sins of the people were not atoned for. The lamb’s blood had to be carried by a bowl into the holy of holies and applied to the mercy seat (which rested upon the Ark of the Covenant).

Here are the eloquent words of Dr. Jack Hyles (1926-2001) concerning the importance of the blood being applied…

In the Old Testament, the High Priest killed two goats on the Day of Atonement. The blood of one goat was taken by the High Priest into the Holy Place to the Ark of the Covenant. On the top of the Ark of the Covenant was the Mercy Seat. Over that Mercy Seat were two cherubims beaten out of pure gold. Between the wings of those cherubims was the Glory of God. The blood from the goat that was sacrificed was applied to the proper place which was the Mercy Seat. If the blood did not get to the Mercy Seat, then it was the proper price, but not paid to the proper place. It would have been no more valid than that check written but not paid to the creditor.

If the blood of Jesus was left on the ground at the cross, that means it did not get to the Holy Place and is not valid. “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” It is not just the blood shed, but also the blood applied.

God told Moses to instruct the people to apply the blood of the lamb at the Passover. When He passed over and saw the blood of that lamb, He would withhold His judgment. God did not judge them based on His omniscience. He made a point of letting them know that He would not judge them only when He saw the blood. It was not enough that the blood was shed. The blood had to be properly applied.

Who is this Woman?

VirginMary2

Who is this woman who calls herself the “Queen of Heaven?”

Is this surely the same virgin Mary of the Bible who declared herself the handmaiden of the Lord instead of a Queen?

“And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” Luke 1:38

Is this the same Mary in the Bible who told others to do whatever Jesus told them to do?

“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” John 2:5

She was blessed to be chosen as an earthly vessel to carry Jesus in her womb, but was she anything more? Jesus only recognized those who did His Father’s will and called them his own family.

“While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”  Matthew 12:46-50

Why would the Creator worship or obey His own creation?

Mary was a humble servant of the Lord who was willing to obey her Lord. She was married to Joseph and after Jesus was born, they had many children.

So, who is this Queen of Heaven? ……

Once upon a time, sometimes after the flood of Noah….

Noah’s grandson named Nimrod was exceedingly evil. He created the Babylonian religion that defied God. He was also the one that built the tower of Babel. He married his own mother who was called Queen Semiramis.

His mother told everyone that the moon conceived her and birthed her. She called herself the Queen of Heaven in their Babylonian religion. (IMPORTANT).

Nimrod’s uncle killed him and cut up his body in many pieces. The only piece missing was his male genital (which is why obelisks are created in his honor after his male genital).

His mother became pregnant and birthed a child named Tammuz. She told everyone that Tammuz was Nimrod reborn. She demanded worship of her son as the Queen of Heaven and the messiah child.

Nimrod is also known as baal, the sun god. Semiramis is also known as Dinah, Isis.. and Mary. Tammuz was the name of the false “messiah” of Babylon. After Constantine, Jesus began to appear in images with long hair like Tammuz.

This “Queen of Heaven” worship is all over the world, but it is Semiramis, the evil Babylonian queen.

Notice the ring of light around their heads? This is a form of sun worship. Millions of Catholics worship them on SUN-day, a day created by the Catholic church as day in honor of the sun god Baal.

The Roman Catholic Church was originated in a pagan country called Rome. This country was heavily Pagan for centuries. The Roman Catholic Church is Paganism disguised as Christian. All they did was change their names, but Catholics are unknowingly worshiping Babylonian gods. The Vatican are very aware but want to keep it their dirty little secret.

The Bible warns us NOT to worship the queen of heaven,

“The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.” Jeremiah 7:18

And the Bible warns us of a mystery Babylon (read Revelation 17) which is alive today and in practice. It is a mystery that deceives many because it is disguised as Christianity. It is the Babylonian religion of today’s world and God will send his final judgment and destroy it once and for all.

And finally, God warns us urgently to:

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4

Do not be deceived.

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Matthew 24:24

The Chemistry Of The Blood

“The life Is In The Blood” —Leviticus 17:11

M.R. DeHaan, M.D.

Martin Ralph DeHaan, M.D. (1891-1965) was an American Bible teacher, pastor, author, and physician. Founder of Radio Bible Class. His simple granite gravestone, testifies of that great truth which he so keenly believed and fervently broadcast around the world, “…The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven and …the dead in Christ shall rise…” (1st Thessalonians 4:16) PERHAPS TODAY!

Dr. DeHaan spoke to millions of listeners each week for some twenty-seven years on the Radio Bible Class. His academic training included a degree from Hope College, a medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical College, and further study at Western Theological Seminary. He was the author of more than twenty books and countless daily devotionals in Our Daily Bread, published by RBC Ministries of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Here are the first five chapters of Dr. DeHaan’s excellent life-changing book, THE CHEMISTRY OF THE BLOOD:

SERMON ONE

“Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.” Leviticus 7:26, 27.

The Bible is a Book of blood and a bloody book. When we are accused of preaching a Gospel of blood we proudly plead guilty to the charge for the only thing that gives life to our teaching and power to the Word of God is the fact that it is the blood which is the very life and power of the Gospel. The Bible claims for itself that it is a “living” Book and the only living Book in the world and is able to impart life to those who will believe with their hearts what it teaches. In Hebrews 4, we read these words:
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword.”

Hebrews 4:12a
The word translated “quick” in this verse is “LIVING” or “ALIVE.” The word of God is a living Word, wholly distinct from all other books for just one reason, namely that it contains blood circulating through every page and in every verse. From Genesis to Revelation we see the stream of blood which imparts to this Book the very life of God. Without the blood in the Bible it would be like any other book and of no more value, for the Bible plainly teaches that the life is in the blood. As we begin this brief series of messages, therefore, on the blood, we must begin with one fundamental principle found in the Bible. This fundamental principle is given in Leviticus 17, as follows;
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

Leviticus 17:11

This same inspired principle is repeated in the 14th verse where we read again,

“For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof.”

 Leviticus 17:14
Life, that mysterious something that science has never yet been able to define or fathom, is said by God to be in the blood of the flesh, so that there can be no life without the blood. Now while this is true of all flesh, we are mainly interested in the human blood and particularly in the blood of the man Christ Jesus because in His blood was not only life as we think of it physically but ETERNAL life as well.

 THE PHYSIOLOGY OF BLOOD

In the human body there are many different kinds of tissues. We define them as muscle, nerve, fat, gland, bone connective tissues, etc. All these tissues have one thing in common, they are fixed cells, microscopically small and having a specific and limited function. Unlike these fixed tissues, the blood is fluid and mobile, that is, it is not limited to one part of the body but is free to move throughout the entire body and touch every other fixed cell as it supplies it with nourishment and carries off waste products and the ashes of cell activity which we call metabolism.
In the normal human body there are about five pints of this fluid, and this blood pumped by the heart circulates through the system about every twenty-three seconds, so that every cell in the body is constantly supplied and cleansed and at the same time is in constant communication and touch with every other cell in that body. This blood is the most mysterious of all tissues, being composed of scores of elements and compounds and strange chemical bodies, whose function is not yet fully understood, but all of which have to do with the mystery of life for the “life is in the blood.” Once the blood fails to reach the cells and members of the body, they promptly die and no man ever dies until his blood ceases to circulate. The life is in the blood.
THE BLOOD OF CHRIST
Now all this is true of a physical body, but all points to a greater, deeper spiritual truth. The church of Jesus Christ is called His body and we “are members of His body” and “severally members one of another.” In this body Jesus Christ is the head and all believers are the members. These members are related by the blood of Christ. The life of each member depends on His blood and is dependent solely for life, nourishment, cleansing and growth upon the blood of the Lamb of God for “the life is in the blood.” Every born-again believer is a member of that body and lives the common life of every other member by the one thing which unites them and makes them “relatives and brothers,” even the blood of Christ. These members may be widely separated in the body like the hands and the feet.
They may differ widely in color; such as the white members-the teeth, and the black members-the hair or pigments of the eyes. They may differ widely in function such as nerves and skin, or differ in  structure such as fat and muscle, but they are all members of one body and united by the one tissue, the blood that reaches every member everywhere. Even so it is with the Body of Christ, the true Church. They may differ in color and be white, or negro or yellow. They may differ in function according to their gift and talent. They may differ in their place as far as Eskimos are removed from the Boers in South Africa.
They may differ in form as much as Catholics and Plymouth Brethren but all born-again believers who have trusted the Finished Work of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Head of the Body, are brothers by blood, members of one family and body, whether they be Jews or Gentiles, white or black, Catholic or Protestant, kings or peasants. All are one through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ALL ONE BY THE BLOOD

Listen, my friends, God cares nothing about our manmade divisions and groups and is not interested in our self-righteous, hair-splitting, and religious, man-made formulas and organizations. He wants you to recognize the UNITY of the body of Christ. Our business is not building denominations and proselytizing men and women from one so-called faith to another but to preach the truth that “Ye must be born again” and that you are lost no matter what church you belong to unless you have been washed in the precious blood of Christ.

Show me the man or the woman who is more interested in getting members for his church than winning them for Christ, and I will show you a person who does not yet know the Unifying and purifying power of the Blood, in making us all ONE in Him, not in form or ritual or mode of worship but one in common interest to EXALT OUR HEAD, the Lord Jesus, and to love one another. Some folks are so busy defending their pet doctrines and sectarian views and getting church members, that they never win a soul for Christ.

ALL RELATED BY BLOOD

All men are related by the blood of Adam, sinful and polluted blood, dead in trespasses and in sins. Scripture teaches that God —

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth.”

Acts 17:26a

All men have a common origin from Adam. It is Adam’s blood which courses in every man’s veins whether white or black, Jew or Gentile, pagan or cultured. This blood carries the sentence of death because of Adam’s sin and for this reason all men die a common death, with no exceptions. Now remember that the life is in the blood, and so if man must die it is because there is death in the blood. Whatever the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil was we to know that eating of it caused “blood poisoning” and resulted in death for God had said:

“The day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Genesis 2:17b

So potent was this poison that six thousand years after all who are related to Adam by human birth still succumb to that poison of sin which is transmitted through the blood. A review of the story of Adam’s creation will make clear this truth. We are told that God formed man out of the dust of the earth. Up to this, Adam was a lifeless clump of clay. Materially he was just so much dust, and merely molded into the shape of a man, but without life, he was a mere dummy. Then the record tells us that —

“And [God] breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Genesis 2:7b

The breath of God put something in man that made him ALIVE. That something was blood. It must have been. It could be nothing else: for we have already shown that the “Life of the flesh is in the blood thereof, and so when life was added by the breath of God, He imparted to that lump of clay in the shape of a man the blood, and a man became a living soul.” Adam’s body was of the ground. His blood was the separate gift of God for God is Life and the Author of all life.

SIN AND DEATH

Then man sinned and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and HE DIED. DIED SPIRITUALLY — and, ultimately, physically. Now since life is in the blood … when man died, something happened to the blood. Sin affected the blood of man not his body, except indirectly because it is supplied by the blood. For this very reason sin is not in the flesh but in the blood and flesh can only be called “sinful” flesh because it is nourished and fed and sustained by sinful blood. Sin is transmitted through the blood and since god “hath made of one blood all nations,” the sin is transmitted to all  of Adam’s progeny. For in that one sinned all have sinned.

THE VIRGIN BIRTH

This very fact that sin is in the blood necessitated the VIRGIN BIRTH of Christ if He was to be a son of Adam and yet a sinless man. For this very reason, Christ could partake of Adam’s flesh which is not inherently sinful, but He could not partake of Adam’s blood which was completely impregnated with sin. God found a way by which Jesus “born of a woman” (not man) could be a perfect human being but, because He had not a drop of Adam’s sin in His veins He did not share in Adam’s sin. We take up this subject of the virgin birth in another message, but we just anticipated this thought here to further prove the statement that sin is in the blood and the whole plan of redemption, therefore, revolves around the blood.

THE LINE OF THE BLOOD

Now I am sure that what we have so said so far will answer the question “Why is the Bible a Book of blood?” Because sin is in the blood, and it follows that if sin is to be atoned for, sinless blood must be provided by someone who is totally unaffected by Adam’s sin and yet belong to the human race. So we can trace throughout the Scriptures this line of the blood. The first mention of the blood is in chapter four [of Genesis] where the blood of Abel cried from the ground for vengeance. In the preceding chapter the blood, while it is not mentioned by name is inferred. you remember how Adam and Eve after their sin have tried to make garments to cover their shame from fig leaves.

That is the history of man. Instead of realizing that sin needs not COVERING but ATONEMENT, man has ever after been trying to save himself by the work of his own hands and by garments of his own manufacture. So he weaves the flimsy fig leaf garment of morality and culture and good works and law works, religion, education and reformation and a social gospel, repeating the error of our first parents when they tried to save themselves by the work of their own hands. They failed us all, [and] since then [mankind] has failed and will fail. Then God comes to them and we read in Genesis 3:21 these words,

“Unto Adam also and unto his wife did the LORD God make coats of skin, and (He) clothed them.”

Genesis 3:21

In this first record of sacrifice, we have the whole story of the blood. Notice three things about this act of God which was a preview of the whole plan of redemption. First, Adam’s sin called for God’s intervention. It must be God’s work and not man’s. GOD MADE THE COAT OF SKINS. Salvation must be ALL of the Lord. Second, Salvation must be by the DEATH of an innocent substitute.

Since these coats were made of skin and animal first had to die to provide the covering. A poor substitute (probably a little lamb) had to die that Adam might be saved. Third, it MUST BE BY SHEDDING OF BLOOD, for the animal must be killed to give it’s skin and in this sacrifice it’s blood must be shed. Without shedding of blood is no remission. It is the blood that maketh an atonement for the sole. “The blood of Jesus Christ His son cleaneth us from all sin.”

ALL THROUGH THE BOOK

This principle of blood laid down in this first sacrifice runs like a scarlet line all through the book. In Genesis four Cain and Abel bring a sacrifice each. One is accepted, the other rejected simply because Cain presented no blood while Abel did. In Genesis nine, Noah sheds blood of the clean animals out of the Ark and God makes a covenant of grace with him. In Genesis Twenty Two, Abraham sacrifices a ram caught in the bushes in Isaac’s stead and the blood of the substitute spares the sinner. In exodus we have the Passover Lamb.

In Leviticus, we have the tabernacle sacrifices with their steams of blood, and all through the rest of the book we follow the line until we trace it to it’s source and we see on Calvary God’s perfect Lamb of which all the others were but a picture and a type and we see the one who met the three conditions of the Father,

First — He was God’s own gift.
Second — He died in the place of others and,
Third — It was by the shedding of His own precious blood.

Oh, friend, have you seen the utter uselessness of [making an attempt at] saving yourself by your own fig leaf efforts? Remember, “it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Without shedding of blood is no remission.”

SERMON TWO

“For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”
Hebrews 9:13-14

The whole plan of redemption rests upon the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. In a previous message, we pointed out that the blood is the only tissue which is unlimited in its movement within the body. Almost all other body tissues are fixed, such as muscle, bone, nerve, fat, and skin. They remain where they are. The blood is the only tissue which is not fixed but circulates throughout the body to every living cell. There are other fluid products of the body, such as saliva and gastric juices, tears and bile, but these are not tissues, but secretions and are not parts of the body but byproducts of that body. The blood alone is the liquid tissue that can reach every single cell in the body and, therefore unites all the members with the head and the individual members as well.

MYSTERIOUS STRUCTURE

Man has learned a great deal about this blood since the discovery of the microscope and the development of blood chemistry, and while much is still a mystery, we quite thoroughly understand its physical structure. The normal human body with its five pints of blood is wholly dependent upon the circulation of this fluid for its life for the “life of the flesh is in the blood thereof.” Simply stated the blood consists of a liquid vehicle, called the plasma, a colorless liquid in which are suspended the various cellular elements and in which are found in solution a great many chemical compounds. The solid part of the blood consists mainly of three kinds of cells. These are called platelets, thin transparent cells whose function is still quite obscure. Then there are the red cells or erythrocytes, in the concentration of about 5,000,000 per cubic millimeter. These are the cells which carry the fuel to the tissues in the form of combined oxygen and gives the blood its red color. Then there are the white cells or leukocytes, of which there are several kinds, which have to do particularly with the defenses of the body in combating infection. Then there are the other elements in solution which provide for the clotting of the blood when an artery or vein is severed, and the antigents and antibodies to prevent disease, as well as various salts and elements of lessor interest.

THE ERYTHROCYTES

A good deal is known concerning the red and the white cells, since they are the more easily studied. The red cells or erythrocytes are minute disc-shaped cells with their mysterious hemoglobin, an iron compound which has an affinity for oxygen, the fuel of the body. These red cells traveling through the lungs come in contact with the oxygen in the air we breathe and unite loosely with it to form oxy-hemoglobin and in that form they carry it to all cells and there discharge its little cargo to the cell, providing it with its vital oxygen for combustion and heat. Then the blood picks up the waste products of tissues, the carbon dioxide, and the ashes of tissue metabolism, which we may well call “the cell garbage,” and discharges this through the kidneys, the skin, the bowels and lungs and then refills with a load of precious oxygen and goes through the whole cycle again, taking about twenty-three seconds for one trip around. The food is carried to the tissues by the blood and in the same vehicle the “garbage” is carried off, and yet there is never any contamination, so perfectly has the great Creator made us. Imagine today our city produce dealers today delivering our foods unpackaged in the same truck in which they haul the garbage. Here is something in which our health departments to wonder at.

CHRIST OUR SUPPLY

As essential then as the blood is to our bodies, so essential is the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ to the body of Christ. It too is fluid so that it can reach every single member of that body no matter how far those members may be removed the one from the other. Just as the blood supplies the food elements for nourishment and life, and then carries off the waste products and poisons due to cell metabolism, so too the Lord Jesus Christ is to every believer the only source of life, the only support and sustenance of life but also the One who keeps cleansing us day by day, so that our eternal life is really ETERNAL, for the “blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing flood?
Are YOU washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless, are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Here is indeed a marvel of divine chemistry. In Revelation we read that the saints of God had washed their robes white in the blood of the Lamb. Think of it. Washing in blood and becoming white. Try and wash your robes in the blood of a man and see what color they are. It is impossible to wash clothes white in human blood, but God’s chemical laboratory of redemption has found a way to wash away all filth and stain and wonder of wonders it is by washing in the BLOOD of the Lamb. His sinless, supernatural blood alone can do that.

THE LEUKOCYTES

Now besides the red cells in the bloods plasma, we mentioned the white cells, scientifically called leukocytes.  They are called “white cells” because they are pale or white in appearance, while the red cells, of course, are not. These white cells are somewhat larger than the red cells but much less in number. They normally occur in the concentration of about four thousand to seven thousand per cubic millimeter, while you remember the red cells have a count of from four to five million. However, the number of these white cells may be very, very rapidly increased in cases of emergency. The seven thousand normal count may be called the regular “standing army” of the blood stream. When an infection occurs anywhere in the body and the body is attacked by an enemy “army” of germs, the news is flashed back to the “camp” where the white cells are manufactured and immediately the organ turns out a greatly increased number of these white cells and rushes them over to the point of infection.  We might well call this “Conscription of the white army,” in times of emergency. The number of white cells is doubled and then trebled, for the white cells are the “soldiers” of the body. They have the strange power to kill germs and engulf them. So when you prick your finger and a little infection starts, you soon notice a swelling around the wound. This is caused by blood being rushed to the area carrying these little “soldiers,” the white cells. These white cells surround the point of infection completely and lay siege to the bacteria causing the trouble. Millions of “soldiers” are killed and are gathered to one place, where they form what is commonly called “pus.”So now the battle is turning and the wound which at first was red and angry and swollen now comes to a head. It has been successfully surrounded and finally the pimple bursts and the pus is expelled. The pus consists of serum and dead “soldiers,” millions of the white cells which gave their lives in the battle for the body, together with countless numbers of germs partly digested by the white cells.

When the “dead” in the form of pus have been expelled, the blood and other white cells come in, clean up the “battlefield” and build new tissues until all is healed, and nothing but a scar remains. The number of white cell “soldiers” during all this time has been greatly increased but now the battle is over and they return to their normal peacetime number. This is the reason the doctor takes a little of your blood out of your finger for a blood count when he suspects infection anywhere. In doubtful cases of appendicitis he takes a drop of blood and examines it. If the white cells are greatly increased and the “army” is being “conscripted” as indicated by the increasing number of little white “soldiers,” he knows pretty sure that there is an attack by infection being made upon the body somewhere. Surely in the light of all this we can appreciate the words of David when he said, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

OVERCOMING BY THE BLOOD

What the blood in our bodies does for us in times of danger and attack, the PRECIOUS BLOOD of the Lord Jesus Christ does for each and every believer. Right in this connection I must quote a passage from Revelation 12.

“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, WHICH ACCUSED THEM BEFORE OUR GOD DAY AND NIGHT. AND THEY OVERCAME HIM BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB and by the word of their testimony.”
Revelation 12:10-11

They overcame him (Satan) BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB. Now this hath its interpretation, of course to the nation of Israel in the tribulation, but it applies just as well to us today. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. He brings charges against us before God and to be sure there are plenty of charges to be made. But when He comes before God to accuse us there is One there, even our Great HIGH PRIEST, the Lamb of God, and all He needs to do is to point to the blood that was shed for us and it is enough.

Sometimes Satan also comes to accuse us. He points out our sins and failures and we see our shortcomings and the sins of the flesh and he says, “Are you a Christian? Are you saved? You don’t look like a Christian.” The result is that often we go down and are defeated when we look at ourselves and our sins. We begin to doubt our salvation and question our redemption. How can we overcome this enemy? How can we overcome this enemy? How shall we meet this infection? There is only one answer: “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.”

I see no good in myself, even less than the Devil sees. I have no hope in myself and have no confidence in the flesh. Then I plead the blood. I look to Calvary and point to Him who there died for me and shed His blood for me and the light breaks through. I see that it is not my goodness nor the awful mountain of my sins, but it all depends on His blood. The blood fights for me. It is the army of “white cells” in the blood of Christ which puts the enemy to flight. I acknowledge my sin, I do not deny it and then I claim the promise,

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.”

1 John 1:9

“If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

1 John 1:7

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.”

Revelation 12:11

IMMUNITY TO SIN

We have time for just a word about a few other elements in the blood. In the blood are not only these cells and the clouting elements but science has discovered in the blood the ANTIBODIES or ANTITOXINS. These are elements which PREVENT INFECTIONS. The white cells fight infection when it occurs, but the ANTIBODIES prevent the infection from getting a foothold. Their nature of these elements is not fully understood, but we know clearly that except for these disease-preventing elements we would soon perish. An interesting angle is presented when you remember that these antibodies are produced in response to infection. That is, while these bodies which prevent a certain disease may be absent in the blood, AFTER THE PERSON HAS HAD THE DISEASE ONCE, these bodies have been produced in a large amount, and thus prevent the patient from contracting the same disease twice. Some of those antibodies last for life, as in the case of smallpox, scarlet fever and other diseases. Once you have had an attack of these, you will never get it again. Others are only temporary, giving immunity only for a time, so that after a certain period of time the same disease may be contracted again. The thing to notice is this: The body once attacked by disease builds up immunity so that it will not be attacked by that disease again. This immunity is in the blood.

THE BLOOD OF CHRIST

What a lesson in the blood of Christ there is here for every believer in Him!  Even after we have been saved we are still open to the attacks of the world, the flesh and the Devil. Even after being born again we all to often fall prey to temptation and go down. The characteristic of the Christian who fails is that he seeks the cleansing of the blood of Christ and thereafter pleads the blood of Christ and guards against a repetition of the thing that once brought him down. He does not fall into the same sin again and again, for each experience builds up an immunity against that sin.

The difference between the sinner and the saint is NOT that the saint never SINS but the difference is this:  the saint HATES his sin and pleads the blood of Christ, while the sinner loves his sin and goes back into it. The saint is like a sheep. It may fall in the mud hole, but it is not comfortable there, and will bleat until the shepherd lifts her out, and thereafter will avoid that mud hole by ten rods. The sinner is like a pig. It goes about looking for slime pits and when it finds one it slides in with a grunt of glee and will squeal vehement objections if you try to pull it out and no sooner is it out than it will return to the slime pit again.

The saint may FALL into Sin but he will never remain there and he will be unhappy while in it. Oh Christian, do not despair if you have failed. Our precious Lord knew when He came to die for you what a failure you would be. He knew how hard it would be to remain undefiled in this old world which is “no friend to Grace”. He knew the pitfalls in the way and the deceitfulness of the flesh, and so when He died to save you, He also shed His blood to cleanse you, for He caused John to write:

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:8-9

My friend, it will do you no good to deny your sins. God says if you do that you are only deceiving YOURSELF and nobody else. Your only hope is CONFESSING your sin, and then He sends the “army” of “white cells” of the precious blood of Christ to cleanse you. Then TRUST Him to keep you from Sin through that same precious blood which, in addition to the “white cells” of fighting and cleansing, also contains the ANTITOXIN against further sinning. Do not despair today as you think of how you have failed, but flee to Him who shed His PRECIOUS BLOOD for your salvation, your cleansing and your KEEPING.

SERMON THREE

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth.”
Acts 17:24-26

One statement in this passage calls for special attention. Paul says that God “hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth.” The one thing which relates all men to each other is the blood that flows in their veins. Every other part of man’s body differs but little from the body and the flesh of animals but the blood is distinct and separate from that of all other creatures. ALL MEN OF ONE BLOOD and that ONE BLOOD was the blood of Father Adam, the first man and the progenitor of the whole human race.

It is not Eve’s blood which flows in the veins of mankind but ADAMS. That is why it is ADAM’s sin and not Eve’s which all men inherit. Sin is in the blood, and transmitted in the blood of man and in the flesh. Since the LIFE is in the blood according to the Scriptures, and the wages of sin was death, sin affected the blood of Adam and caused him to die. Because sin is a disease of the blood, it can be cured by the application of sinless blood, for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. As the first Adam’s sin corrupted the blood of the entire human family, so the pure sinless blood of the last Adam makes atonement for the sin of the world. “For without shedding of blood is no remission . . .” “It is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” It was not  Eve’s sin which affect us although Eve sinned before Adam did. It was theSIN of ADAM which brought death upon the whole race because it is ADAMS blood that transmits original sin and it is for this reason we are not called the SEED OF THE WOMAN but we are ADAM’S SEED. ONLY  Jesus is called the Seed of the woman, because He was born of a woman without one drop of human blood in His veins, and thereby could avoid the sin of Adam which is only transmitted through the blood which the male contributes to his offspring. Jesus could have a human body, but one drop of Adam’s blood would have made Him a sinner just as you and I. There was then only one remedy for SIN and that was sinless blood and only one could supply this, even the sinless Son of God.

From Genesis to Revelation we have this message of the atoning blood. In the Old Testament, we have it in type in the blood of the lambs and the goats which were slain in the bloody ritual of Israel. Long, long before the perfect Lamb of God Himself came, the Lord was preparing the world for Him by the multitudinous types in the Old Testament. Without blood there could be no atonement, and until the blood was presented the holy law of God demanded justice and death upon the sinner. That is why, when God gave the two tables of the law to Moses upon Mount Sinai, the law which called for justice and not mercy, the law which said, “The soul that sinneth it shall die,” the Law which demanded PERFECTION or death, when God gave the perfect Holy Law He also gave to Moses in the same Mount the pattern for the Tabernacle which was indeed built on blood and its whole ritual was bathed in blood. God knew when He gave to Israel the law that they could not keep it perfectly and MUST DIE and so in mercy He gave the Tabernacle and the altar and the blood so that a sinning people condemned by the Law might have life through the sheltering blood.

THE ARC OF THE COVENANT

The central object of the tabernacle was the Arc of the Covenant. This was an oblong box made of acacia wood and overlaid with God.

THE MEN OF BETH-SHEMESH

God has caused and incident to be recorded from the history of Israel to emphasize this great indispensable proof. You will find the complete record in I Samuel 6. Let me give you this setting. Israel had gone forth to battle against the Philistines and had superstitiously carried this Arc with the broken law and blood covered mercy seat with them into battle, hoping it would give them the victory. Instead they were defeated and the Arc of the Covenant was taken captive by the enemy and set up in the house of Dagon the Philistine Fish God. The next morning the Fish God Dagon had fallen down before the Arc, and the following morning the same occurred severely damaging the Philistine’s God. Then an epidemic of terrible boils swept over the enemy country, together with a most grievous plague of mice which together with the boils almost drove them frantic. The priest blamed it all on the Arc and suggested sending it back to the land of Israel, which they did with a great deal of elaborate ceremony. When the Arc arrived back in Israel at the city of Bethshem, drawn by two oxen before a brand new cart, the Israelites rejoiced greatly at the return of the Arc. Someone, concerned deeply about the safety of the Arc and it’s contents, lifted the golden mercy seat from the Arc wherein lay the broken law. for just an instant the blood was removed from over the law and God looked upon the law without the protecting cover of blood, and we read the sad, record as found in I Samuel 6:19, 20,

“An He (God) smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the arc of the Lord, even He smote the people 50,000 and three score and ten men ….. And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this HOLY LORD GOD?”

Because they had removed the blood from over the law, the Lord smote FIFTY THOUSAND and SEVENTY of the inhabitants of the city. Now why is this record given except to emphasize the fact that WITHOUT BLOOD THERE IS NO REMISSION and that the BLOOD is the only guarantee from the curse of the law even death and from the wrath of a Holy God. Think of this for a moment. Over fifty thousand men slain by the wrath of God because they looked for only one brief moment upon the law of God without the covering blood.  Now all this, of course, illustrates the plan of salvation. It points forward to the true Lamb of God even The Lord Jesus Christ Himself whose blood alone was able to make eternal atonement for sin. Please do not overlook the fact that the blood upon the mercy seat in the tabernacle must be applied again and again. Each year on the day of the atonement, the High Priest must repeat the ceremony and present fresh blood to be sprinkled on the Arc. The blood of bulls and goats and lambs could not atone for sin, but merely pointed forward to the one that would come in the end of that age to PUT AWAY SIN by the sacrifice of Himself.

GOD’S PERFECT LAMB

So in the fullness of time God sent forth His Son into the world to be born of a woman, and at the end of His life He shed His precious eternal blood ONCE and for all. After that there was no more sacrifice. The blood of the sacrificial animals of the Old Testament was corruptible and decayed and was soon gone, but the blood shed on Calvary was imperishable blood. It is called incorruptible. Peter says,

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, such as silver and gold . . . but with the precious blood of Christ. . . . .”

The blood of the Lord Jesus is sinless blood, and since it is sinless, it is incorruptible, for sin brought corruption, and where no sin is there is no corruption. In our next message, we shall point out how the blood which flowed in Jesus’ body was sinless and how He escaped having one single drop of Adam’s human blood within Him. Every drop of blood which flowed in Jesus’ body is still in existence just as fresh as it was when it flowed from His wounded brow and hands and feet and side. The blood that flowed from His unbroken skin in Gethsemane, the blood that was smeared about His back as the cruel, weighted thongs cut through His flesh as the flagellator scourged Him, the blood that oozed out under the thorny crown and flowed from His hands, His head, His feet was never destroyed for it was incorruptible blood. David in speaking of Him in the sixteenth Psalm which Peter quotes in Acts 2, says:

“Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”

Although the body of the Lord Jesus Christ lay in the tomb in death for three days and three nights, no corruption had set in for that body contained incorruptible blood. Lazarus being dead only one day more was said by his sister to be STINKING with corruption, but this one saw no corruption because the only cause of corruption, SINFUL BLOOD, was absent from His flesh. That blood, every drop of it, is still in existence. Maybe when the Priest ascended into heaven, He went like the High Priest of old into the Holy of Holies in the presence thereof God to sprinkle the blood upon the Mercy Seat in heaven of which the material Mercy Seat and Ark in the Tabernacle were merely copies. In Hebrews 9:23-26 we read.

“It was therefore necessary that the “patterns of things in the heavens (referring to the earthly Tabernacle) should be purified with these (that is, the blood of beasts); but the heavenly things themselves with BETTER SACRIFICES THAN THESE. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the High Priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others . . . but now once in the end of the age hath he appeared to PUT AWAY SIN by the sacrifice of himself.”
Hebrews 9:23-26

After Christ had made the atonement, He arose from the tomb, and then as the eternal High Priest, ascended into heaven to present the blood in the Holy of Holies where God dwells, and that blood is there today pleading for us and prevailing for us. The priest in the Tabernacle never spoke a word. All he did was PRESENT THE blood, and that was enough. MAYBE there is a golden chalice in heaven where every drop of that precious blood is still in existence, just as pure, just as potent, just as fresh as two thousand years ago. The priest in the earthly Tabernacle needed to repeat the sprinkling again and again and it is a significant fact that among all the pieces of the furniture of the Tabernacle there was no chair to be found. We read of the altar, the table, the candlestick, and the Ark, but there is no chair in the Tabernacle of Israel. It simply signifies that the work of the earthly priest who sprinkled the blood of animal sacrifice was never done. He could not sit down. His work was never finished. Of the Great High Priest Jesus Christ, we read:

“But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, SAT DOWN on the right hand of God. . . . . For by one offering he hath perfected FOREVER them that are sanctified.”
Hebrews 10:12, 14

The blood has been shed. The incorruptible, eternal, divine, sinless, overcoming, precious blood. It availed then, and it avails now and throughout all eternity it shall never lose its power.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose it’s power,
Till all the ransomed church of God
Be saved, to sin no more.

Because of all this, the blood is called in Scripture by many descriptive names. “It is precious,” says Peter. “It is incorruptible,” says David. “It is overcoming blood,” says John in Revelation “for they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” No wonder Satan hates the blood and will do anything to get rid of that power of the blood of Christ.

Today, it is as true as in the day of Israel, that there is no remission without the blood. When the men of Bethshemesh looked upon the Law of God without blood, they perished. Today the Law has not changed its character, nor the blood. The Law still is the “ministration of death.” (2 Corinthians 3:7). It is still true that “cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” They that are of the works of the law are under the curse. The Law killeth (2 Corinthians 3:6).

ONLY THE BLOOD

God said to Israel and to us, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” He did not say, “When I see your goodness, your morality, your works, your fervent religious worship, your earnestness in trying to keep the Ten Commandments or observe the Golden Rule.” No, it is simply this, “When I see the blood I will pass over you.” Do you think that I have made too much of the blood, that have I over-emphasized its importance? Listen, blood is mentioned in the Bible about Seven Hundred Times from Genesis to Revelation, and when we see the redeemed throng in heaven in the book of Revelation, we hear them singing, not about their goodness, not about how they have kept the law and been faithful, but this is the song,

“Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.”

Revelation 1:5
Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing blood,
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are your garment spotless, are the white as snow,
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

SERMON FOUR

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, BEFORE THEY CAME TOGETHER, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that WHICH IS CONCEIVED IN HER IS OF THE HOLY GHOST.”

Matthew 1:18-20

“NOW all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name EMMANUEL, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Matthew 11:22-23

THE VIRGIN BIRTH

Passing strange, is it not, that with such a clear record anyone can deny that the BIBLE TEACHES THE VIRGIN BIRTH. We can understand how men can reject the Bible record, but how men can say that the Bible does not teach the VIRGIN BIRTH is beyond conception.

The Bible teaches plainly that Jesus was conceived in the womb of a virgin Jewish mother by a supernatural insemination of the Holy Ghost, wholly and apart from any generation by a human father. This the Bible teaches so plainly that to the believer there is no doubt. The record cannot be mistaken by the enlightened and honest student of the Word.

JESUS SINLESS

The Bible teaches in addition that Jesus was a SINLESS man. While all men from Adam to this day are born with Adam’s sinful nature, and, therefore, are subject to the curse and eternal death, the Man Jesus was without sin and, therefore, DEATHLESS until He took the sin of others upon Himself and died THEIR death. Now while Jesus was of Adam’s race according to the flesh yet He did not inherit Adam’s nature. This alone will prove that sin is not transmitted through the flesh. It is transmitted through the blood and not the flesh, and even though Jesus was of the “Seed of David according to the flesh” this could not make him a sinner.

God has made of ONE BLOOD ALL THE NATIONS of the earth. Sinful heredity is transmitted through the blood and not through the flesh. Even though Jesus, therefore, received His flesh, His body from a sinful race, He could still be sinless as long as not a drop blood of this sinful race entered His veins. God must find a way whereby Jesus could be perfectly human according to the flesh and yet not have the blood of sinful humanity. That was the problem solved by the virgin birth.

ORIGIN OF THE BLOOD

It is now definitely known that the blood which flows in an unborn babies arteries and veins is not derived from the mother but is produced within the body of the foetus itself only after the introduction of the male sperm. An unfertilized ovum can never develop blood since the female egg does not by itself contain the elements essential for the production of this blood. It is only after the male element has entered the ovum that blood can develop. As a very simple illustration of this, think of the egg of a hen. An unfertilized egg is just an ovum on a much larger scale than the human ovum. You may incubate this unfertilized hens egg but it will never develop. It will decay and become rotten, but no chick will result. Let that egg be fertilized by the introduction of the male sperm and incubation will bring to light the presence of LIFE IN THAT EGG. After a few hours it visibly develops. In a little while red streaks occur in the egg denoting the presence of Blood. This can never occur and does never occur until THE MALE SPERM HAS BEEN UNITED WITH THE FEMALE OVUM. The male element has added life to the egg. Life is in the blood according to scripture, for Moses says:

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood.” (Leviticus 17:11). “For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof.”
Leviticus 17:14

Since there is no life in the egg until the male sperm unites with it, and the life is in the blood, it follows that the male sperm is the source of the blood, the seed of life. Think it through.

NO MOTHERS BLOOD

For this very reason, it is unnecessary that a single drop of blood be given to the developing embryo in the womb of the mother. Such is the case according to science. The mother provides the foetus (the unborn developing infant) with the nutritive elements for the building of that little body in the secret of her bosom, but all the blood which forms in that little body is formed in the embryo itself and only as a result of the contribution of the male parent. From the time of conception to the time of birth of the infant not ONE SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD ever passes from mother to child. The placenta that mass of temporary tissue known better as “afterbirth,” forming the union between mother and child is so constructed that although all the soluble nutritive elements such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, salts, minerals and even antibodies pass freely from mother to child and the waste products of the child’s metabolism are passed back to the mothers circulation, no actual interchange of a single drop of blood ever occurs normally. All the blood which is in that child is produced within the child itself as a result of the introduction of the male sperm. The mother contributes no blood at all.

TESTIMONY OF SCIENCE

Now for the sake of some of the skeptics who may doubt these statements let me quote from a few reliable authorities. In Howell’s Textbook of Physiology, Second Edition, pages 885 and 886, I read:

“For the purpose of understanding its general functions it is sufficient to recall that the placenta consists essentially of vascular chorionic papillae from the foetus  (the unborn child) bathed in the large blood spaces of the decidual membrane of the mother. The fetal and maternal blood DO NOT COME INTO ACTUAL CONTACT. THEY ARE SEPARATED FROM EACH OTHER by the walls of the fetal blood vessels and the epithelial layers of the chorionic villae.”

Or let me quote from Williams’ Practice of Obstetrics, Third Edition, page 133. Here I quote,

“The fetal blood in the vessels of the chorionic villae AT NO TIME GAINS ACCESS TO THE MATERNAL BLOOD in the intervillous space,BEING SEPARATED FROM ONE ANOTHER by the double layer of chorionic epithelium.”

And from page 136 of the same recognized textbook I quote,

“Normally there is no communication between the fetal blood and the maternal blood.”

Now for the benefit of those of you who may be nurses, let me quote from a textbook which is familiar to you. Quoting from  “Nurse’s Handbook of Obstetrics” by Louise Zabriskie, R.N., Fifth Edition, page 75:

“When the circulation of the blood begins in the embryo, it remains separate and distinct from that of the mother. All food and waste material which are interchanged between the embryo and the mother must pass through the blood vessel walls from one circulation to the other.”

And from page 82 of the same book —

“The  foetus receives its nourishment and oxygen from the mothers blood into its own through the medium of the placenta. The fetal heart pumps blood through the arteries of the umbilical cord into the placental vessels, which, looping in and out of the uterine tissue and lying in close contact with the uterine vessels, permit a diffusion, through their walls, of waste products from child to mother and of nourishment and oxygen from mother to child. As has been said, this interchange is effected by the process of osmosis, and there is no direct mingling of the two blood currents. In other words, no maternal blood actually flows to the foetus, nor is there any direct fetal blood flow to the mother.”

GOD’S WONDERFUL PROVISION

How wonderfully God prepared for the virgin birth of His Son. When He created woman He made her so that no blood would be able to pass from her to her offspring. That blood is the result of the male. Since Adam was the federal head of the race, it is HIS BLOOD which transmits Adam’s Sin. In order to produce a sinless man and yet be the son of Adam, God must provide a way whereby that man would have a human body derived from Adam but have not a drop of Adam’s sinful blood. Right here is the scientific biological reason for the sinlessness of the Man Christ Jesus. Some have tried to answer the question, “How could He be sinless and yet born of a woman?” by making Mary the “Immaculate Virgin.” That, however, does not answer the question of how JESUS was sinless since it is through the male that the bloodline runs.

Not only is this a scientific fact, but it is plainly taught in Scripture that Jesus partook of human flesh without Adam’s blood. In Hebrews 2:14 we read,

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood. He also himself likewise took part of the same — “

You will notice that the children, that is the human children, are said to be partakers of FLESH and BLOOD, and then speaking of Jesus it says that He “himself likewise took part of the same.” The Word “took part” as applying to Christ is an entirely different word then “partakers” as applied to the children. In the margin of my Bible, I read the word translated “took part” implies “taking part in something outside one’s self.” The Greek word for partakers is “KOYNONEHO” and means “to share fully,” so that all of Adam’s children share fully in Adam’s flesh and blood. When we read that Jesus “took part of the same” the word is “METECHO” which means to take “part” but not all. The Children take both flesh and blood of Adam but Christ took only part, that is the flesh part, while the blood was the result of supernatural conception.

Jesus was a perfect human being after the flesh. He was of the seed of David according to the flesh, but blood is that part of a man which is the divine addition. In the creation of man, Adam’s body was made from the dust of the earth, but God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Since life is in the blood, this act resulted in the formation of blood in Adam’s body, but the first Adam’s blood was corrupted and sin transmitted through it to all mankind. In the last Adam and the second man, new and divine and sinless blood was produced in a body that was the seed of Adam and by this resulted in the production of —

DIVINE BLOOD

Conception by the Holy Ghost then was the only way the Virgin Birth could be accomplished. Mary contributed the body of Jesus and He became the “seed of David according to the flesh.” The Holy Spirit contributed the Blood of Jesus. It was sinless blood. It was Divine blood. It is Precious Blood for there has never been any other like it. It is —

INNOCENT BLOOD

“I have betrayed the innocent blood” Judas confessed in Matthew 27:4. Our Lord was innocent. He became like unto us in all things — SIN only excepted. Like unto us withONE EXCEPTION  and that exception was that instead of a human father He was conceived by a DIVINE FATHER. As a result biologically, He had DIVINE BLOOD, SINLESS BLOOD. Because this blood is sinless it is —

INCORRUPTIBLE BLOOD

Sin made human blood corruptible. Soon after death, decay sets in, and it begins in the blood. That is why meat must be drained well of its blood. That is why embalmers place the embalming fluid in the blood. David said that Jesus’ body should “see no corruption.” Though He was dead three days and three nights, His body did not corrupt. Because He was sinless they could not put Him to death but instead He “laid down His life voluntarily that He might take it up again.” He arose by His own power because death had no claim in HIM except the claim of others’ sin, and when that was paid —

“Death cannot keep his prey, Jesus, my Saviour,
He tore the bars away, Jesus, My Lord.
Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes.”

Sinner, have you received this Saviour and have you been washed in His PRECIOUS BLOOD? If not, you are still under the curse and the awful sentence of death. Why not accept HIM today and hear Him as he says:

“God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then being now JUSTIFIED BY HIS BLOOD, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
Romans 5: 8, 9

SERMON FIVE

“But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”

Genesis 9:4

THE SANCTITY OF BLOOD

This is part of the very first command which God gave to man after the awful judgment of the Flood of Noah. After the wickedness of man had reached its peak in ante-diluvian days, God, in order to spare the human race from complete corruption sent a great flood upon the earth and destroyed all men except one family which by the grace of God had still remained “Perfect in his generations.” With this new family on a cleansed and renewed earth, the Lord begins a new chapter in the history of humanity. No sooner had God, however, released Noah from the Ark, than He gave him some instructions concerning his conduct, lest another judgment should fall upon them. Chief among these instructions was the commandment “EAT NO BLOOD.” “But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.” EAT NO BLOOD, says God to man as he emerges on the new earth. Is there not here more than a mere suggestion that the flood may have come in part as the result of man’s disregard for the “sacredness of blood?”

We know the earth was filled with violence, and the first overt sin committed after the fall was the sin of the shedding of Abel’s innocent blood. This blood cried for vengeance from the ground. If that innocent blood called for vengeance in the Flood of Noah, shall God not also avenge the blood of those who today are dying because of the latter-day violence which is unquestionably in fulfillment of the words of our Lord when he said,

“And as it was in the days of Noe’, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.” Luke 17:26

Yes, one of these days He is coming to put an end to the reign of terror on the earth and cleansing the world, by the judgment of the tribulation of which the Flood was but a type, will bring a kingdom of peace on another renewed and cleansed earth.

BLOOD IS SACRED

Because life is in the blood, and not in the flesh of God’s creatures, He permitted man to eat FLESH but it must be WITHOUT BLOOD. God is very insistent on this point. In giving the national dietary and ceremonial laws to Israel He repeats the prohibition of Genesis 9:4.

“But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”

Genesis 9:4

“Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”

Leviticus 7:26-27

The same injunction is repeated at greater length in Leviticus 17. God said, “It is sin to eat any manner of blood.” So serious was this sin that the transgressor was to be cut off from his people. Meat which had not been thoroughly drained of its blood was unfit for food, as well as all things strangled. Today, the orthodox Jew, at least, still remembers this prohibition, and will eat nothing but Kosher meat, that is, meat which is without blood and which has been slaughtered according to the law. Every kosher meat market and every bit of kosher food is evidence of the sacredness of blood.

WE ARE UNDER GRACE

Now someone will say, “But we are under grace and that command was given to the Jews under the law.” That objection carries no weight. God first gave the command toNOAH and NOAH WAS NOT UNDER LAW. He lived over a thousand years before the Law of Moses was given on Mt. Sinai. More than that, after the law had been fulfilled in Christ and the age of Grace ushered in, God is careful to let us know that this rule still holds: “EAT NO BLOOD.” In the fifteenth chapter of Acts we have the record of the first general church council at Jerusalem. A very vexing question had arisen in the early Church after Paul and Barnabas had taken the Gospel to the Gentiles. The Jewish members of the early Church insisted that these Gentile believers become circumcised and that they were to keep the law. A bitter controversy arose and a meeting was called in Jerusalem to decide this question. Paul and Barnabas came down from Antioch for the meeting, and after much disputing they were sent back to the Gentile Believers at Antioch with this message,

“Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and KEEP THE LAW; to whom we gave no such commandment.”
Acts 15:24, 25

Please do notice carefully what the apostles said, “WE GAVE NO SUCH COMMANDMENT.” They denied that they ever taught that the Church was under the law or that Gentile believers had to be circumcised. Nineteen hundred years after, the Church is still vexed by these legalists who would make Jews out of us all, but the apostles said No, we are not under the law but under grace. The Christian does not keep the law because he MUST but he serves God because he is so grateful for having been delivered from the law. Now notice the further instructions of the apostles:

“For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and FROM BLOOD, AND THINGS STRANGLED, and from fornication.”
Acts 15:28-29

They were not under the law, but still they were to abstain from the eating of blood, not because they were under the law, but because of the SACREDNESS OF BLOOD, which is the life of all flesh. God gave the commandment to Noah one thousand years BEFORE the law. It held during the age of law and after the age of the Law had passed, it still holds today.

WHY NO BLOOD NOW?

God’s commands are never arbitrary but always logical and reasonable. Many reasons can be found for abstaining from blood. We might mention the reasons of HEALTH and HYGIENE but there are two reasons which stand out most prominently.

FIRST, the life is in the blood and LIFE is sacred. It was God’s special gift and the effect of His own breath. Moses tells us in Genesis, this fact,

“God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the BREATH OF LIFE; and man became a living soul.”
 Genesis 2:7

Now follow closely the Biblical argument. Since life is in the blood, all flesh is lifeless without blood. Here then is Adam formed out of the dust. Just a lump of matter without life. God breathed into his nostrils and lo, he lives. Since the LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD, it was BLOOD which God added to that body when He BREATHED INTO HIM THE BREATH OF LIFE. Adam’s body was of the earth but his blood was DIRECTLY FROM GOD. God demands that we respect this fact since it was God’s own breath which filled all flesh with blood. To eat blood, therefore, is to insult the life of God for “the life . . . is in the blood.”

THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

There is a Second and a more potent reason still. The blood was God’s only purchase price of redemption. When man sinned, something happened to his blood, for “the life . . . is in the blood.” Instead of incorruptible and, therefore, deathless blood, Adam’s blood corrupted through sin and became subject to death. To redeem this DEAD sinner, life must be again imparted. The only remedy for death is LIFE. This life is in the blood and so blood must be furnished which is sinless and incorruptible. Now none of Adam’s race could do this. For in “Adam all died.” “All have sinned and come short.” The angels could not furnish that blood for they are spirit beings and have neither flesh nor blood. There was only one, yes, ONLY ONE, who could furnish that blood, the virgin-born Son of God, with a human body, but sinless supernatural blood, inseminated by the Holy Ghost. In a previous message we showed scientifically that every drop of blood in an infant’s body is the contribution of the male parent, while the mother furnished all the flesh of that little body. Jesus’ body was of Mary; His blood was by the Holy Ghost. This sinless, supernatural blood was the only price of redemption God could accept, without violating the integrity of His holy nature. Death can only be banished by life. A blood transfusion must be performed and provided.

BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS

We hear much today about blood transfusions. Many lives have been saved by this little operation. In cases of hemorrhage, and various diseases, the blood from healthy individuals is put in the veins of the suffering victim and death is cheated of its prey. Well, the greatest of all “transfusions” is performed when a poor sinner dead in trespasses and in sins is transfused by the blood of Christ the moment he believes. The only requisite is Faith in the atoning blood.

BLOOD BANKS

We hear much, too, in these days about BLOOD BANKS. It is the name applied to a storehouse for blood taken from healthy individuals for future use on injured or sick persons. By adding certain preservatives to the blood taken from healthy individuals it can be kept for future use in sterile containers. This preservative does not affect the potency of the blood so that it can be used at some future date. Persons are asked to come to the hospital or laboratory to donate this blood. There, this blood is taken, treated and filed away. In this way there is always an ample supply of blood for transfusion in any emergency. How wonderful the findings of science. Today, you can give your blood to save the life of some stranger a thousand miles away, a month from now.

GOD’S BLOOD BANK

This is not one millionth as wonderful as what God did nineteen centuries ago. Then there was one Man who gave ALL His sinless blood on the Cross of Calvary. There aBLOOD BANK was opened and into that bank went the blood of the Lord Jesus. It suits every type, avails for everyone and is free to all who submit to its “transfusion” by the Holy Spirit. All you need to do is apply for it by FAITH. We must add chemicals to the blood in our blood banks to preserve it, and then it eventually deteriorates just the same, but no preservatives need be added to His Precious blood, for it is INCORRUPTIBLE and sinless. Not one drop of that blood was lost or wasted. It is INCORRUPTIBLE.

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with CORRUPTIBLE THINGS, as silver and gold. . . . But with the preciousBLOOD of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
1 Peter 1:18, 19

That blood CANNOT PERISH I do not know where that blood is now but I suspect it is in heaven somewhere just as fresh and as potent as when it was shed nineteen hundred years ago. When I get to heaven I shall not be surprised to find a diamond studded, golden basin next to the throne with the very blood, the precious incorruptible blood which was shed at Calvary, and as we gaze upon it we will sing,

“Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood.” Rev 1:5

Hallelujah for the Blood! Reader, do you know that blood is as fresh today as it ever was and will be. It cannot perish. There is a hymn which goes something like this,

“Upon the Cross His blood was spilt,
A ransom for our sins and guilt.”

That is not true, Jesus’ blood was not “spilled.” Spilling is the result of an accident. The death of Christ was no accident. He laid down His life and voluntarily shed His precious blood that we might live.

Oh sinner, won’t you appropriate that precious blood NOW! There is nothing else which can wash you clean from the guilt and the power of sin. Receive it today and be saved.

You believers who have been grieving over your sin, remember,

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to CLEANSE us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:19

TRUST HIM NOW

“There is a fountain filled with blood,
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.”

Quotes by Martin R. DeHaan, M.D.

“Before an individual can be saved, he must first learn that he cannot save himself.”

“We need not all agree, but if we disagree, let us not be disagreeable in our disagreements.”

“Be on guard against any tampering with the Word, whether disguised as a search for truth, or a scholarly attempt at apparently hidden meanings; and beware of the confusion created by the senseless rash of new versions, translations, editions, and improvements upon the tried and tested Bible of our fathers and grandfathers.”

The true Church preaches REGENERATION; not reformation, not education, not legislation, but regeneration.” (THE TABERNACLE, Pg. 101)

“Let me repeat that no greater curse has ever afflicted the Church of Jesus Christ than the curse of spiritualizing Scripture, that is, making Scripture mean something other than its literal meaning… Instead of spiritualizing, it is ‘demonizing’ of the Scriptures, for if any ‘spirit’ has anything to do with that school of Scripture interpretation it must be an ‘evil spirit.’

No, the Scriptures were not given to us to confuse us but rather to instruct us.  Certainly God intends that we should believe His Word with all simplicity.  A thousand years means a thousand years; a wolf means a wolf; a lion means a lion.  If you read your Bible that way, a child can understand it.”

Medical Aspects of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ

Heb 12:2 – “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

In the last few hours of Jesus’ life what did He endure, and what shame did He suffer?

EXCRUCIATE: to cause great agony, torment

Latin : ex : out of, from cruciate : cross

“from the cross”

The tone of this presentation can best be summarized in the word“excruciate”, (the root of the word “excruciating”) which refers to something which causes great agony or torment. The Latin roots of the word are :“ex”, meaning from or out of, and “cruciate”, meaning cross. The word “excruciate” comes from the Latin for “from, or out of, the cross”.(Websters)

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Jesus spent the last hours before the crucifixion at several places in Jerusalem. He started the evening in the Upper Room, in southwest Jerusalem. At the Last Supper, He told the disciples that His body and His blood were to be given for them.(Matt 26: 26-29) He went outside of the city to the Garden of Gethesemane. He was then arrested and brought back to the to the palace of the High Priest. where He was questioned by Annas, a former High Priest, and Caiaphas, Annas’ son in law . Afterwards, He was tried by the Sanhedrin, and found to be guilty of blasphemy by proclaiming Himself the Son of God. He was sentenced to the death penalty. Since only the Romans were able to execute criminals, He was sent to Pontius Pilate at the Antonia Fortress. Pilate, not finding anything wrong, sent Him to King Herod , who returned Him back to Pilate. Pilate, submitting to the pressure of the crowd, then ordered that Jesus be flogged and crucified. He was finally led out of the city walls to be crucified at Calvary.

THE HEALTH OF JESUS AND DEMANDS OF THE ORDEAL

It is reasonable to assume that Jesus was in good health prior to the ordeal that He faced in the hours before His death. Having been a carpenter and traveling throughout the land during His ministry would have required that He would be in good physical condition. Before the crucifixion, however, He was forced to walk 2.5 miles over a sleepless night, during which He suffered great anguish through His six trials, was mocked, ridiculed and severely beaten, and was abandoned by His friends and Father. (Edwards)

THE UPPER ROOM OR CENACULUM

The ordeal began in an upper room of a house at what we now call the Last Supper, where Jesus, in giving the first communion, predicted that His body and blood would be given.(Matt 26:17-29) Today in Jerusalem, one can visit the Cenacle or Cenaculum (Latin for dining hall), a room which is built over what is believed to be the site of the Upper Room, (Kollek) which was located on the southwestern aspect of the old city.

GETHESEMANE : oil press

Luke 22:44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

“the Spirit of God ….crushed”

From the upper room, Jesus went outside of the city walls where he spent time in prayer at the Garden of Gethesemane. The garden has many ancient olive trees today, some of which may have grown from the roots of the trees that were present in Jesus’ time. (All trees in and around Jerusalem were cut down when the Romans conquered the city in 70 A.D. Olive trees can regenerate from their roots and live for thousands of years.) The name “Gethesemane”, comes from the Hebrew Gat Shmanim, meaning “oil press” (Kollek). Since “oil” is used in the Bible to symbolize the Holy Spirit, it may be said that the garden is where “the Spirit of God was crushed”.(Missler). It was here that Jesus agonized in prayer over what was to occur. It is significant that this is the only place in the KJV where the word “agony” is mentioned.(Strong’s concordance) The Greek word for agony means to be“engaged in combat” (Pink) Jesus agonizes over what He is to go through, feeling that He is at the point of death.(Mark14:34) Yet He prays, “Not my will, but thine be done.”

Of medical significance is that Luke mentions Him as having sweat like blood. The medical term for this, “hemohidrosis” or “hematidrosis” has been seen in patients who have experienced, extreme stress or shock to their systems. (Edwards) The capillaries around the sweat pores become fragile and leak blood into the sweat. A case history is recorded in which a young girl who had a fear of air raids in WW1 developed the condition after a gas explosion occurred in the house next door.(Scott)) Another report mentions a nun who, as she was threatened with death by the swords of the enemy soldiers,” was so terrified that she bled from every part of her body and died of hemorrhage in the sight of her assailants.”(Grafenberg) As a memorial to Jesus’ ordeal, a church which now stands in Gethesemane is known as the Church of the Agony. (also called the Church of the Nations because many nations donated money to its construction.(Kollek)

ABANDONED BY MAN

Matthew 26:56“Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.”

Psa 22:11“Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.”

While in Gethesemane, Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested by the Jews. His disciples all desert Him, even at the expense of running away naked (Mark 14:51-52). He is bound (John 18:12) then brought back to the city to the court of the High Priest, which is located near the Upper room.

ILLEGAL ASPECTS OF THE TRIAL OF JESUS

Following are some of the illegal aspects of the trial of Jesus:

  • Trials could occur only in the regular meeting places of the Sanhedrin (not in the palace of the High Priest)
  • Trials could not occur on the eve of the Sabbath or Feast Days or at night
  • A sentence of ‘guilty’ might only be pronounced on the day following the trial

THE ISSUE OF WITNESSES

Deut 19:15“One witness is not enough to convict a man accused of any crime or offense he may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.”

Deut 17:6“On the testimony of two or three witnesses a man shall be put to death, but no one shall be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.”

Mark 14:56“Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.”

While in the court of the High Priest, He was questioned by Annas (John 18:13) and struck by a soldier (John 18: 22). He was then brought to Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin. who sought to put Jesus to death by the false testimony of many witnesses. The witnesses brought against Him did not agree. By the law, no one could be put to death without the agreement of two or three witnesses. Although the witnesses did not agree, He was found guilty of blasphemy when He told them of His identity as the Son of God. He was sentenced to death. Jesus suffered ridicule from the palace guards, who spat on Him, beat Him and slapped Him on the face.(Mark 14:65.) During the trial, Peter denies Him three times. The proceedings of Jesus’ trial violated many of the laws of His society. Among some of the other broken laws were:(Bucklin)

  1. Any arrest could not be made at night.
  2. The time and date of the trial were illegal because it took place at night and on the eve of the Sabbath. This time precluded any chance for the required adjournment to the next day in the event of a conviction.
  3. The Sanhedrin was without authority to instigate charges. It was only supposed to investigate charges brought before it. In Jesus’ trial, the court itself formulated the charges.
  4. The charges against Jesus were changed during the trial. He was initially charged with blasphemy based upon His statement that He would be able to destroy and rebuild the Temple of God within three days, as well as His claim to be the Son of God. When He was brought before Pilate, the charge was that Jesus was a King and did not advocate paying taxes to the Romans.
  5. As stated above, the requirement of two witnesses in agreement to merit the death penalty was not met.
  6. The court did not meet in the regular meeting place of the Sanhedrin, as required by Jewish law.
  7. Christ was not permitted a defense. Under Jewish law, an exhaustive search into the facts presented by the witnesses should have occurred.
  8. The Sanhedrin pronounced the death sentence. Under law, the Sanhedrin were not allowed to convict and put the death sentence into effect. (John 18:31)

Today, one can visit the palace of the High Priest. where one can stand in the midst of the ruins of the courtyard. A model of the structure in Jesus’ time is available for viewing.

PILATE’S VERDICT

Mark 15:15 – “Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.”

The Sanhedrin met early the next morning and sentenced Him to death. (Matthew 27:1) Because the Jews were not, and the Romans were, able to carry out an execution, Jesus was brought before Pilate. The charge was now changed to an allegation that Jesus claimed to be King and forbade the nation to pay taxes to Caesar. (Luke 23:5) In spite of all the charges, Pilate finds nothing wrong. He sends Jesus to Herod. Jesus is speechless before Herod, except to affirm that He is King of the Jews. Herod sends Him back to Pilate. Pilate is unable to convince the crowds of Jesus’ innocence and orders Jesus to be put to death. Some sources state that it was Roman law that a criminal that was to be crucified had to be flogged first.(McDowell) Others believe that Jesus was flogged first by Pilate in the hope of getting Him off with a lighter punishment .(Davis) In spite of his efforts, the Jews allow Barabbas to be released and demand that Jesus be crucified, even crying that ,“His blood be on us and on our children!”(Matthew 27:25) Pilate hands Jesus over to be flogged and crucified.

It is at this point that Jesus suffers a severe physical beating. (Edwards) During a flogging, a victim was tied to a post, leaving his back entirely exposed. The Romans used a whip, called a flagrum or flagellum which consisted of small pieces of bone and metal attached to a number of leather strands. The number of strikes is not recorded in the gospels. The number of blows in Jewish law was set in Deuteronomy 25:3 at forty, but later reduced to 39 to prevent excessive blows by a counting error. (Holmans). The victim often died from the beating. (39 hits were believed to bring the criminal to “one from death”.) Roman law did not put any limits on the number of blows given. (McDowell) During the flogging, the skin was stripped from the back, exposing a bloody mass of muscle and bone (“hamburger “ : Metherall). Extreme blood loss occurred from this beating, weakening the victim. perhaps to the point of being unconscious.

ROMAN SOLDIERS MOCK AND BEAT JESUS

Matthew 27:28-30 (The soldiers) stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. Jesus was then beaten by the Roman soldiers. In mockery, they dressed Him in what was probably the cloak of a Roman officer, which was colored dark purple or scarlet .(Amplified Bible) He also wore the crown of thorns. Unlike the traditional crown which is depicted by an open ring, the actual crown of thorns may have covered the entire scalp.(Lumpkin) The thorns may have been 1 to 2 inches long. The gospels state that the Roman soldiers continued to beat Jesus on the head. The blows would drive the thorns into the scalp (one of the most vascular areas of the body) and forehead, causing severe bleeding.

THE CROWN OF THORNS AND THE ROBE

Genesis 3:17-18“Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.”Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD.“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” The significance of the scarlet robe and crown of thorns is to emphasize Jesus’ taking the sins of the world upon His body. The Bible describes sin by the color of scarlet (Is 1:18) and that thorns first appeared after the fall, as a sign of the curse. Thus, the articles that He wore are symbols to show that Jesus took on the sins (and the curse) of the world upon Himself. It is not clear that He wore the crown of thorns on the cross. Matthew describes that the Romans removed His clothes after the beating, and that they put His own clothes back on Him. (Matt 27:31)

THE SEVERITY OF THE BEATING

Isaiah 50:6“I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.”

Isaiah 52:14“….. Just as there were many who were appalled at him — his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness–“

The severity of the beating is not detailed in the gospels. However, in the book of Isaiah, it suggests that the Romans pulled out His beard.(Isaiah 50:8) . It is also mentions that Jesus was beaten so severely that His form did not look like that of “a son of a man” i.e. that of a human being. The literal translation of the verse reads, “So marred from the form of man was His aspect, that His appearance was not as that of a son of a man.” People were appalled to look at Him (Isaiah 52:13). His disfigurement may explain why He was not easily recognized in His post resurrection appearances.(Missler) Today, one can visit a site known as the Lithostrotos, traditionally believed to be the floor of the Antonio Fortress.(although recent excavations may cast doubt on this theory (Gonen)) The floor is marked for games once played by the Roman soldiers

From the beating, Jesus walked on a path, now known as the Via Dolorosa or the “way of suffering“, to be crucified at Golgotha. The total distance has been estimated at 650 yards. (Edwards). A narrow street of stone, it was probably surrounded by markets in Jesus’ time. He was led through the crowded streets carrying the crossbar of the cross(called a patibulum) across His shoulders. The crossbar probably weighed between 80 to 110 pounds. He was surrounded by a guard of Roman soldiers, one of which carried a titulus, a sign which announced His crime of being “the King of the Jews” in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. On the way, He was unable to carry the cross. Some theorize that he may have fallen while going down the steps of the Antonio Fortress. A fall with the heavy patibulum on His back may have led to a contusion of the heart, predisposing His heart to rupture on the cross. (Ball) Simon of Cyrene (currently North Africa (Tripoli)), who apparently was affected by these events, was summoned to help.

The present Via Dolorosa was marked in the 16th century as the route over which Christ was led to His crucifixion.(Magi) As is the location of Calvary, the true location of the Via Dolorosa is disputed. Much tradition as to what happened to Jesus is encountered on the Via Dolorosa today. There are 14 stations of ‘events’ that occurred and 9 churches on the way today. The stations of the cross were established in the 1800’s. (Magi) Today, there is one section of the path where one can walk on the stones which were used during Jesus time.

SUFFERING ON THE CROSS

Psalm 22:16-17Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.”

The crucifixion event is prophesied in several places throughout the Old Testament. One of the most striking is recorded in Isaiah 52:13 ,where it says that , “My servant will act wisely (or prosper) .He will be raised and lifted up and greatly exalted.” In John 3, Jesus talks about His fulfillment of that prophecy when He says, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.” He refers to the events recorded in Numbers 21:6-9. The Lord had sent a plague of fiery serpents on the people of Israel and they bit the people so that many of the people died. After the people confessed their sin to Moses, the Lord for gave them by having a bronze serpent made. Bronze is a symbol for judgment and the serpent is a symbol of the curse. Whoever was bitten by a serpent and then looked at the bronze serpent, was saved from death.. These verses are prophecies that point to the crucifixion, in the Jesus would be (lifted up ) on the cross for the judgment of sin, so that whoever believed in Him should not die (an eternal death), but live an eternal life. II Cor 5 :21 amplifies this point, in that “He (the Father) made Him who knew no sin (the Son) to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”(Pink) It is interesting that the sign of Aesculapius which is the symbol of the medical profession today, had its roots from the making of the bronze serpent.(Metherall) Indeed, Jesus is the healer of all! Jesus is led to the place of the skull (Latin Calvary, Aramaic :Golgotha) to be crucified. The actual location of Calvary is also in dispute. At the end of the Via Dolorosa, there is a “T intersection”. If one turns left, we go to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. If one turns to the right, one goes to Gordon’s Calvary. The Church of the Holy sepulcher has long been believed to be the traditional site of the crucifixion.

Gordon’s Calvary has a possible prophetic reason for being the actual site of the crucifixion .In Genesis 22, Abraham is tested by God to sacrifice Isaac on the top of a mountain. Realizing that he is acting out a prophecy, that “God Himself will provide a Lamb” , Abraham calls the place of the event “Jehovah Jireh”, meaning “In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.” If we take this as a prophetic event of Jesus’ death, then Jesus’ died on the high ground of Jerusalem. Gordon’s Calvary is the highest point of Jerusalem, 777 meters above sea level.(Missler: Map from Israel tour book) Today, at Gordon’s Calvary, caves in the rock are situated which give the site the appearance of a skull.

Jesus was then crucified. Crucifixion was a practice that originated with the Persians and was later passed on to the Carthaginians and the Phoenicians. The Romans perfected it as a method of execution which caused maximal pain and suffering over a period of time. Those crucified included slaves, provincials and the lowest types of criminals. Roman citizens, except perhaps for soldiers who deserted, were not subjected to this treatment. (McDowell)

The crucifixion site “was purposely chosen to be outside the city walls because the Law forbade such within the city walls…for sanitary reasons … the crucified body was sometimes left to rot on the cross and serve as a disgrace, a convincing warning and deterrent to passers by.” (Johnson) Sometimes, the subject was eaten while alive and still on the cross by wild beasts. (Lipsius)

The procedure of crucifixion may be summarized as follows. The patibulum was put on the ground and the victim laid upon it. Nails, about 7 inches long and with a diameter of 1 cm ( roughly 3/8 of an inch) were driven in the wrists . The points would go into the vicinity of the median nerve, causing shocks of pain to radiate through the arms. It was possible to place the nails between the bones so that no fractures (or broken bones) occurred. Studies have shown that nails were probably driven through the small bones of the wrist, since nails in the palms of the hand would not support the weight of a body. In ancient terminology, the wrist was considered to be part of the hand. (Davis) Standing at the crucifixion sites would be upright posts, called stipes, standing about 7 feet high.(Edwards) In the center of the stipes was a crude seat, called a sedile or sedulum, which served a support for the victim. The patibulum was then lifted on to the stipes. The feet were then nailed to the stipes. To allow for this, the knees had to be bent and rotated laterally, being left in a very uncomfortable position. The titulus was hung above the victim’s head.

There were several different types of crosses used during crucifixion. In Jesus’ time, it was most likely that the cross used was a T shaped (or tau cross,), not the popular Latin, or t shaped cross which is accepted today.(Lumpkin)

PHYSICAL SUFFERING ON THE CROSS

Psalm 22:14-15“I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.”

Having suffered from the beatings and flogging, Jesus suffered from severe hypovolemia from the loss of blood. The verses above describe His dehydrated state and loss of His strength.

When the cross was erected upright, there was tremendous strain put on the wrists, arms and shoulders, resulting in a dislocation of the shoulder and elbow joints.(Metherall) The arms, being held up and outward, held the rib cage in a fixed end inspiratory position which made it extremely difficult to exhale, and impossible to take a full breath. The victim would only be able to take very shallow breaths.(This may explain why Jesus made very short statements while on the cross). As time passed, the muscles, from the loss of blood, last of oxygen and the fixed position of the body, would undergo severe cramps and spasmodic contractions

ABANDONED BY GOD — SPIRITUAL DEATH

Matthew 27:46“About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’–which means, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

With the sin of the world upon Him, Jesus suffered spiritual death (separation from the Father ). Isaiah 59:2 says that sins cause a separation from God, and that He hides His face from you so that He does not hear. The Father must turn away from His Beloved Son on the cross. For the first time, Jesus does not address God as His Father.(Courson)

DEATH BY CRUCIFIXION : SLOW SUFFOCATION

  1. Shallowness of breathing causes small areas of lung collapse.
  2. Decreased oxygen and increased carbon dioxide causes acidic conditions in the tissues.
  3. Fluid builds up in the lungs. Makes situation in step 2 worse.
  4. Heart is stressed and eventually fails.

The slow process of suffering and resulting death during a crucifixion may be summarized as follows:

“…it appears likely that the mechanism of death in crucifixion was suffocation. The chain of events which ultimately led to suffocation are as follows: With the weight of the body being supported by the sedulum, the arms were pulled upward. This caused the intercostal and pectoral muscles to be stretched. Furthermore, movement of these muscles was opposed by the weight of the body. With the muscles of respiration thus stretched, the respiratory bellows became relatively fixed. As dyspnea developed and pain in the wrists and arms increased, the victim was forced to raise the body off the sedulum, thereby transferring the weight of the body to the feet. Respirations became easier, but with the weight of the body being exerted on the feet, pain in the feet and legs mounted. When the pain became unbearable, the victim again slumped down on the sedulum with the weight of the body pulling on the wrists and again stretching the intercostal muscles. Thus, the victim alternated between lifting his body off the sedulum in order to breathe and slumping down on the sedulum to relieve pain in the feet. Eventually , he became exhausted or lapsed into unconsciousness so that he could no longer lift his body off the sedulum. In this position, with the respiratory muscles essentially paralyzed, the victim suffocated and died. (DePasquale and Burch)

Due to the shallow breathing, the victim’s lungs begin to collapse in small areas. causing hypoxia and hypercarbia. A respiratory acidosis, with lack of compensation by the kidneys due to the loss of blood from the numerous beatings, resulted in an increased strain on the heart, which beats faster to compensate. Fluid builds up in the lungs. . Under the stress of hypoxia and acidosis the heart eventually fails. There are several different theories on the actual cause of death. One theory states that there was a filling of the pericardium with fluid, which put a fatal strain on the ability of the heart to pump blood (Lumpkin). Another theory states that Jesus died of cardiac rupture.” (Bergsma) The actual cause of Jesus’ death, however, “may have been multifactorial and related primarily to hypovolemic shock, exhaustion asphyxia and perhaps acute heart failure.”(Edwards) A fatal cardiac arrhythmia may have caused the final terminal event. (Johnson, Edwards)

A LAST DRINK OF WINE VINEGAR

John 19:29-30 “A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.” When he had received the drink, Jesus said, `It is finished’. “With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

Having suffered severe blood losses from His numerous beatings and thus in a dehydrated state, Jesus, in one of His final statements, said“I thirst.” He was offered 2 drinks on the cross. The first, which He refused, was a drugged wine (mixed with myrrh). He chose to face death without a clouded mind. Edersheim writes:

“It was a merciful Jewish practice to give to those led to execution a draught of strong wine mixed with myrrh so as to deaden consciousness” (Mass Sem 2.9; Bemid. R. 10). This charitable office was performed at the cost of, if not by, an association of women in Jerusalem (Sanh. 43a). The draught was offered to Jesus when He reached Golgotha. But having tasted it….He would not drink it. ….He would meet Death, even in his sternest and fiercest mood, and conquer by submitting to the full….(p.880).

The second drink, which He accepts moments before His death, is described as a wine vinegar. Two points are important to note. The drink was given on the “stalk of a hyssop plant”. Remember that these events occurred at the Feast of the Passover. During this feast, (Exod 12:22) hyssop was used to apply the blood of the Passover lamb to the wooden doorposts of the Jews. It is interesting the end of this hyssop stalk pointed to the blood of the Perfect Lamb which was applied to the wooden cross for the salvation of all mankind. (Barclay) In addition, the wine vinegar is a product of fermentation, which is made from grape juice and yeast. The word literally means “that which is soured” and is related to the Hebrew term for “that which is leavened”. (Holmans) Yeast or leaven, is a Biblical symbol of sin. When Jesus took this drink, (i.e. a drink which was “leavened”) it is thus symbolic of His taking the sins of the world into His body.

CELEBRATION OF THE OPPOSITION
SPIRITUAL WARFARE

Psalm 22:12-13“Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashanencircle me. Roaring lions tearing their prey open their mouths wide against me.”

While He was on the cross, darkness covered the land (noon to three p.m.). Jesus, in Luke 22:53, associates those who arrested Him with the power of darkness. Where were the evil forces while Jesus was on the cross? The verses above from Psalm 22 seem out of place when first read. There seems to be no mention of “bulls” and “lions” around the cross. The verses, however, have a deeper meaning.(Courson) Bashan was an area to the east of the Jordan River which was famous for its fertility. Cattle were raised there which grew to enormous sizes. The people there worshipped demon spirits (associated with Baal) within the cattle. In 1 Pet 5:8, Satan is described as “a roaring lion…seeking those who he may devour” These verses are thus suggestive of the spiritual activity of Satan and his demons, celebrating as Jesus was suffering on the cross.

JESUS LAID DOWN HIS LIFE

John 10:17-18 “The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life–only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.

Luke 23:46 “Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit’.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

The average time of suffering before death by crucifixion is stated to be about 2-4 days(Tenney), although there are reported cases where the victims lived for 9 days.(Lipsius) The actual causes of death by crucifixion were multifactorial, one of the most significant would have been the severity of the scourging. (Edwards) Jesus died a quick physical death (Pilate was surprised that He had died so soon.(Mark 15:44)). While many of the physical signs preceding death were present, one possibility is that Jesus did not die by physical factors which ended His ability to live, but that He gave up His life of His own accord. His last statement, “Into your hands I commit my Spirit” seems to show that Jesus’ death occurred by giving Himself up. In John 10, He states that only He has the power to lay down His life. He proved His power over death by His resurrection. Truly, God is the one who has power over life and death

DEATH BY CRUCIFIXION:

HASTENED by the breaking of the legs, so that the victim could not push up to take a good breath.

John 19:32-33The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

CONFIRMED by a spear thrust into the right side of the heart.

John 19:34Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.Death in crucifixion was hastened by the breaking of the legs of the victim. This procedure, called crurifracture, prevented the ability of the victim to take in a good breath. Death would quickly occur from suffocation. In Jesus’ case, He died quickly and did not have His legs broken. Jesus fulfills one of the prophetic requirements of the Passover Lamb, that not a bone shall be broken.(Exodus 12:46John 19:36)

To confirm that a victim was dead, the Romans inflicted a spear wound through the right side of the heart. When pierced, a sudden flow of blood and water came Jesus’ body . The medical significance of the blood and water has been a matter of debate. One theory states that Jesus died of a massive myocardial infarction, in which the heart ruptured (Bergsma) which may have resulted from His falling while carrying the cross. (Ball) Another theory states that Jesus’ heart was surrounded by fluid in the pericardium, which constricted the heart and caused death.(Davis) The physical stresses of crucifixion may have produced a fatal cardiac arrhythmia. (Johnson)

The stated order of “blood and water” may not necessarily indicate the order of appearance, but rather the relative prominence of each fluid. In this case, a spear through the right side of the heart would allow the pleural fluid (fluid built up in the lungs) to escape first, followed by a flow of blood from the wall of the right ventricle.(Edwards) The important fact is that the medical evidence supports that Jesus did die a physical death.

The story, of course, does not end here. The greatest event that separates Jesus from all others is the fact that He rose again and lives today. He intercedes for those who follow Him at the right hand of the Father.(Heb 7:25)

APPEARANCE IN HEAVEN

Revelation 5:6Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.

In eternity, Jesus will bear the marks of His crucifixion.Rev 5:6suggests that He appears in heaven with the marks as a Lamb“looking as if it had been slain”. We know that when He appeared to Thomas that He bore the scars of the nails and the spear in His side.(John 20:26-28) It is also worth considering reasons as to why He was not immediately recognized after His resurrection. In John 21:12, it is stated that the disciples did “not dare to ask Him His identity, because they knew that it was the Lord.” It is possible that His resurrection body still has the marks of His beatings. “The body of His glorification will be the body of His humiliation.” (Missler)

Are we ready to meet Him? What have we done with what He has given to us?. Today, He encourages us to consider the cost of the cross and to apply it to our own lives.

FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST

Luke 9:23Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

When He was on earth, Jesus stated that , “If any man would come after me, let him take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) As we have seen, in Jesus’ time it meant going to your death, giving up and separating yourself from all that you had…….your rights, your friends, your body and blood and even your “god”, to follow Him.

We are challenged by the example of Simon of Cyrene. Scripture mentions Him as being the father of Alexander and Rufus.(Mark 15:21) Rufus (“a choice man in the Lord”) and Simon’s wife were both addressed by Paul in his letter to the Roman church. (Romans 16:13) Here was a man, who indeed carried the cross…and made an impact for Christ in eternity. What commitment are you willing to make to Him now?

The Bible, God’s Word (II Timothy 3:16-17), relates how God once had a personal relationship with man. God would talk and relate to man, just as you might relate to your best friend. God created man to give him a meaningful and purposeful life.

Man chose to go his own way by disobeying God. (This applies to all men as in Romans 3:23). This disobedience, called sin, caused a break in the relationship between man and God. If a man casually seeks a relationship with God by his own efforts (religion), he will find nothing, because sin has broken the communication. (Isaiah 59:2)

Christianity is the story of God sacrificing His Son to restore a relationship that was broken. As stated in the above text, Jesus gave up His life to pay for the sins of mankind and taking the punishment for the sin upon Himself. Because He gave His life on the cross, any one who believes in Him will have a restoration of a personal relationship with God. Jesus Himself claimed to be the only way to God (John 14:6) and only by the knowledge of God through Jesus Christ can man have a meaningful and purposeful life.(John 10:10)

God desires that all men come to know Him in a personal way. If you have never received Jesus’ gift of Himself for your sins , or have any doubts to how you can have a meaningful and purposeful life by the kinowledge of God through Jesus Christ, you can start by praying a simple prayer, such as:

Dear Lord Jesus. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. I confess that I am a sinner before God. I acknowledge that by your death and sacrifice that you have paid the penalty of my sins for me. Please come into my heart and become the Lord of my life.As you gave your life, I give my life to you. I will take up my cross and follow you, not as I will, but to follow Your perfect will for my life. In Jesus Name, Amen.

mary worship

Agora Cristo é o nosso superior Sumo Sacerdote, e quando acreditamos no Seu trabalho completo, passamos a compartilhar do Seu sacerdócio.
