“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”
-Benjamin Franklin

You know that you want to make your immune system stronger, but do you actually know what it is? It would be impossible to fully explain this amazing and complex part of the body, so to put it very simply, the immune system is an incredible array of biological structures and processes that work together in a coordinated manner to protect against disease. It includes the thymus, bone marrow, lymphoid tissues and organs, and a variety of cells that get dispatched to fight off invaders. Without our immune system, we would not have made much past the first days of our existence. To keep this awesome, often overlooked part of your body up and going strong, try making this tasty fruity drink and enjoying it daily.

You will need…

-½ cup 1 inch cubed watermelon
-½ cup 1 inch cubed cantaloupe
-¼ cup apple, cut into smallish chunks
-2 cups of organic carrot juice

Chop ½ cup each of watermelon and cantaloupe into 1 inch cubes. Slice up an apple into chunks, and toss all your fruit in the blender. Add 2 cups of organic carrot juice, and blend until desired consistency has been reached. More juice will make it thinner, while less will yield a thicker blend. Enjoy 1-2 times daily.

What does this drink do exactly?

This drink is rich in antioxidants and amino acids, and enjoying it daily will serve a couple of benefits. The apple is packed with antioxidants, which help rid your body of free-radicals-free radicals can damage the immune system. The melon and carrot juice are chock full of amino acids, which are needed to trigger the response of our T cells to rid our body of invaders.

Many products claim to literally boost your immune system, but there really isn’t any evidence that there is a simple way to do so. What would that boost be anyways? Think about it-the immune system is just that, a system. It needs balance to function well, and when cells drop below a certain level, we know we get sick. But we don’t know what happens when there are more cells added. Some claims seem rather silly because there aren’t really any ways to “make” more immune system cells at home, and you don’t want to be pumping your body full of extra cells anyways, unless you’re deficient. The body knows what it’s doing; you just need to maintain it.
